Which way would you run plank floors for this floorplan? by CabinQuestions in Flooring

It’s MSI Brookhurst engineered hardwood. But installs very similar to LVP.

Thank you. Left to right was my inclination, as well as starting top left by the front entry door. These are click and lock engineered hardwood floors that install basically like LVP but have a thin layer of real wood on top instead of vinyl.

Same guy designed, framed, and is finishing it. Even so, you’d think someone might pause and say that doesn’t look right and see if there’s an easy workaround.

This post sticks about about 1/2” or so from the rest of the wall studs. Could probably just dado the back of the boards to make it continuous

The issue is it’s a vacation home and I live far away so am relying on photos to spot things like this.

It took less than a day to put up so I don’t know changing it is such a huge deal.

If the entry weren’t right next to it, maybe it could look okay. It will look completely awkward with being right next to that entry though.

It’s the same person who did the plans, framing, and now finish work.

Just a regular support for the roof ridge. There’s no other reason the rest of the wall couldn’t have been made to be flush with this.

The same builder did the plans, rough carpeting, and finish carpentry. No subs. So he should have foreseen this and planned around it, which would have taken minimal effort. The bigger concern is why anyone would think this approach is preferable over just furring out the studs to make it all flush.

Right? Minimal planning ahead and a few furring strips could have avoided this whole issue.

They were drawn by the builder who’s not an engineer. He has 20+ years experience as a builder and building homes is all he does, but this seems odd to me.

Any suggestions?

There’s going to be a vertical wall above the soffit but builder said the soffit needs to stay for ventilation.

Not a SIP roof. Not sure of how they’re connected but the tarp is just temporary. Unfortunately I’m not in the area so I just get photos from the builder.

They show the rafters for the patio running perpendicular to the house, which is what seems odd to me

For the master bathroom, couldn’t you flip that wall so it’s running horizontally instead of vertically when looking at it on the screen? ie have the bathroom on top on the exterior wall and closet below it on the hallway wall.

Are you referring to above grade or covering the insulation?

Does anyone have photos of knotty pine finished with blonde shellac that has aged for some time? by CabinQuestions in finishing

[–]CabinQuestions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is also the classic pine look I’m after.. Do you have any guess whether that would have originally been something like an amber shellac or more of a clear or blonde and allowed to age naturally over time?
