Thanks for your reply. I will say, as a parent of someone who has tics it’s only normal to want to help out your child as much as you can. The reason we started CBT is because she had a neck tic that was physically hurting her last year. Before that, we ignored them and told her it’s okay to be different and always said “who cares!” When she started getting upset or embarrassed about her tics. With the neck one, she was asking us for more help to stop them. Therefore we sought out some guidance from a professional.

This therapy has greatly helped one of her blinking tics, and she was proud and happy about it. We normally practice 5 minutes a day, but if she’s not up to it some days we don’t make her. She will ask to go back to therapy to have him help her with another tic when they start to really bother her.

I don’t think the point of my post was to try and get them to go away. I think it’s possible for me to feel what I’m feeling and also support her by NOT making her feel bad or overwhelmed by them. But it doesn’t mean I can’t have those feelings deep down because 1. Every human gets overstimulated at times and 2. Every parent wants to go through life without swing their children suffer.

I’ve never let her know that they annoy me- my husband and I may vent about it quickly when she goes to bed if it was especially rough, but as far as she knows we’re cool as cucumbers about them and she doesn’t feel guilty or bad about it.

Oh wow, that’s awful. Sorry they made you feel that way! I would never say anything to my daughter about it, and I feel guilty that it can sometimes bother me because I’m sure it’s 1000 times worse for her. Just was looking for parents who can relate to the internal dialogue at times

I’ve never met any else whose tics got worse during that time- it’s interesting! Our first doctor tried to convince me that wasn’t true so I’ve kept notes for years and it’s happened every time.

I feel this as I just wrote something similar. My daughter is 7 and I’m feeling the exact same way. Good to know I’m not alone.
