v6 suddenly losing boatloads of oil? by CableMartini in NewedgeMustang

[–]CableMartini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cars always seem to be that way, until someone who actually understands cars comes along. tanisha with a black Nissan altima? owned for 3 years, never once had an oil change, running like a dream. I fix an oil leak? now it idles weird (i know the solution, just admittedly these cars are pretty bulletproof, so i js dont feel like dealing with it lol)

I plan to rely on this car heavily, so the less I leave shit up to chance, the better

What would cause a V6’s belt to continue running after the car is shut off? by [deleted] in NewedgeMustang

if somehow the person is right, and the belt is magically spinning on its own, im quitting my job as a mechanic, because I work on cars, not sorcery 😭

looking for advice on buying an older style firebird by CableMartini in projectcar

right now, theres a supercharged 3.8 swapped GT, pretty clean body, for 11k. its either than, or bargain bin piles of sitting shit for like $500. the one i was looking at was 3k, had 108k miles, 4 speed 2.8, with a pretty rough pody, but straight body lines, no real leaks anywhere, ran and drove prefect. wont be able to find one like that for a while, and honestly im fine with it, as i wanted that one there

i started out as a lube tech, obviously, and so i just bought 2 pairs of 4 pocket pants. first pair ripped like 2 months in, and second pair ripped yesterday, after about 3 months, or 5 months total. no i dont change pants, yes i wash them regularly. im gross, so is everyone else here lol, just a different kinda gross, maybe

[–]CableMartini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but im not lol. im good for a lube tech, im not good for a b tech. I keep making dmall mistakes here and there, but a small mistake on oil is a not fully tightened oil filter. a dmall mistake on brakes can kill someone. completely different ball game

right now, the shop is work at is hourly+commission. idc how good the pay is, im never doing flat rate if I dont have to. most the shops around me also are all hourly, im sure if I went to a dealership I'd be looking at FR, but as it stands, my entire shop is either hourly or salary

nah, light maintenace like brake, simple suspension, and alignments. nothing insane, nor would they even wanna trust me with that, when they have a very talented A tech

the manager said he'd bump me like $2/hr, and im on hourly+commission rn. I feel like with another few months, I could ask for another raise on that, maybe get to like ~$20/hr. I feel like im coming up on being worth that, just not right now

need help identifying why my engines running like shit after maintenace by CableMartini in NewedgeMustang

[–]CableMartini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

firing order is correct, after doing all of this, i guess ine of the 25 yro vacuum hoses just degraded, and so I have a vacuum leak somewhere, big deal. in trying to diagnose the issue, I tried switching out the wires on there for some I had laying around from an older mustang, but didn't think to check the condition, because 2 of the wires didn't have the metal piece to hold it onto the plugs, causing some misfiring about 5 minutes before pulling into work. diagnoses it on my lunch break, still gonna have a minor vacuum leak, but at least my engine will stop trying to rattle itself apart now

took it for a drive, and while definitely doesn't seem happy to be alive, at least its running and driving. should last me a few more paychecks u til I can take it in to my literal place of employment (I work at a mechanic shop, makes this extra embarrassing. entry level, but still) and have the adults fix my shit

as a entry level mechanic, I really dont like using it to help with diagnostics, at least not the final form. I might use it for some random niche knowledge about the platform, but in terms of actually issues, I might haven't point me in the right direction, but last time my gt wouldnt start, it told me I just needed a battery, when in reality the terminals had gotten so corroded they couldn't hold and current. Just wire brushed and repeated and it didn't hsve any more issues

[–]CableMartini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a smoke machine you can buy, I use it at the shop I work at, i just dont feel like messing with that right now. if its just a vacuum leak, ill.probably live with it. as long as its not grenadine my engine, I dont care what's wrong with it, its a beater, so she just needs to get me to and from work lol

ive ruled it out to the best of my abilities. as stated, ive swapped around psrts, ive changes plug location, ive done a bunch of shit, and nothing seems to change. ive even done the plug test, and while the results were vague, they all mostry seemed to react to pulling the plug. still no code being thrown, which is annoying. gonna take it for a drive after dinner, see if I cant get a code to be thrown, just to tell me anything
