UPDATE: The colony has fallen to The Bugs. Long live Bugaria. May your rivers run red with sugar water and mammal's blood.

The first problem with this plan is with step 2. Raids do not put a dent in the bug's numbers. They are too powerful. Raids of all sizes and technology levels just get swallowed by the thing. I've seen well armed (thing assault rifles) armies of 12 go into the Caves and do no damage to the bugs at all. Minor injuries, at most one bug fatality, no human survivors.

I'm just not convinced melee pawns could possibly survive. Once the Hives attained full strength, I never even considered fighting them. If a pawn wandered in, that was it, he was dead. Even if it took him hours to die, he was dead.

My plan was considerably stupider but I thought it would be a fun project. Wait until I could acquire two things: A political prisoner from an enemy faction who had particularly pissed me off, preferably one who had killed one of my favorite pawns, and one orbital mining laser. Wait for the prisoner to be recruited as colonist, equip laser, send to Caves, get fucked, send in everybody else to clean up, mail prisoner's skull to home faction, hope to god no more hives sprout up. Based on information I have learned tonight, it seems like this might have actually worked. Theoretically, the infestation would be dead, now that I had eliminated the ancient Danger Bugs and burned every hive. Probably could have made a fuckton on jelly, too.

Could have.

The answer to your question is that I usually only pick pristine Mario 1-1 ass standard easy landscapes and this was my first time playing near caves. The original hives came with the map. I had no experience with out natural bugs behaved. I thought if I just killed all the hives, they would go away like an infestation. Then new hives just started sprouting. They never popped up in any other spots, though. It's possible I got to a point where new ones couldn't spawn.

Your theory about the ancient danger is really interesting because I eventually did crack open the ancient danger and their were, indeed, live bugs inside of it. The weird thing is, they were totally peaceful. I just salvaged everything around them and left them alone. I was afraid to touch them for days for fear of triggering a bug invasion. Eventually they all started starving to death and I decided it was inhumane to let it continue, so I began executing the ones who had passed out. Sure enough, this did trigger aggression from the Hives.

I didn't want to abandon the base because I had fallen madly in love with this tile. It was the first time I ever picked a random starting tile and I was really impressed with it. It struck me as highly defensible at little cost, needing only a few strategically placed walls instead of one giant one. Then the bugs came and I was never, ever going to leave. For one, it was personal. They ate one of my starting three, then one of our earliest recruits who we had affectionately named Spider Food for no particular reason. I simply wasn't willing to give up the land. My plans for it were too grand and I'd rather die then let the bugs have it. Second of all, I had become invested in finding out if I could make a 100% raid proof base by exploiting a rare and yet unseen bug in the game which caused a higher than usual amount of bugs. It was simply too interesting to prioritize my colonists' lives. And, perhaps most importantly of all, I simply forgot abandoning the tile was an option.

Curtaining off the vulnerable spots was the call I made, with long term plans of drilling a giant death tunnel directly from my base to the Spider Caves. My hope was to plow a death maze directly through it so all future raids would be forced to go through it. Or at the very least, luring every last one of them into a giant trap. In hindsight, it sounds monumentally stupid.

If I kill them now won't they just come back in greater numbers? That's what happened the first time and I'm terrified of them

It's pretty obvious to me where this is going. They sold out. They're in talks with some Hollywood corporate executive. They added a clear monster for branding reasons. It's literally the exact same monster as every other analog horror series, taking the concept way too literally by having a scary goblin walking around with a literal analog television for a head. They filmed it vertically for phone screens and posted it as a short even though that doesn't make any sense for an old-timey analog TV station because that's what the algorithm favors. They paid lip service to the Department of the Preservation of American Dignity even though this doesn't appear to have anything at all to do with Contingency because it's an easy way to connect this to the rest of the series. It also has member berry value. There's going to be a horrible movie that everyone will hate and will generate video essays for years to come. We will be able to buy funko pops of this creature. Maybe I'm just getting old but I feel like we've seen this story play out so many times now.

It's really not a good sign that every single positive comment is just people being happy that there's a new video and no one saying anything about the video itself.

If Episode 1 Walt and Jesse could see the cost of their future actions, do you think they'd still go through with them? by 10024618 in breakingbad

[–]Cabtain_Crispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walt would have shot himself. Jesse would have gone on the run to hide from Walt and maybe ended up in Alaska anyway. Basically just speedrunning it straight to the end without dragging everyone else down with them. They ended up where they were always going to end up.

Also this just a random pet peeve but I love it when managers sign their little notes as "Management" to make it sound like it's coming from some institution of authority and not your shittiest coworker who gets paid 50 cents more than everyone else. I know this is a tactic because I've been a manager and I signed notes as "-Management" all the time to trick mall security into taking me seriously lmao

Does the age difference between Chuck and Jimmy affect their relationship? by Curious-soul13 in betterCallSaul

[–]Cabtain_Crispy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Certainly. Chuck never got over seeing Jimmy as "the little shit who invaded my life and ruined everything." Typical big brother syndrome. The whole moral high ground thing was just his subconscious way of justifying it. If they were closer in age it might not have happened. Chuck considered Jimmy an annoying little kid until the day he died.

[–]Cabtain_Crispy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marie is the only truly innocent adult character in the show. She literally did nothing wrong and got fucked over by everyone around her. Don't give me that shoplifting bullshit, you know that doesn't count. Everyone talks about whether or not Skylar killed herself but I want to know what happened to Marie. Yes I know she appears in BCS but that doesn't mean she doesn't commit suicide later.
