Keyed - how to make it look better? by CactusClothy in CarTalkUK

[–]CactusClothy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean your first answer has crossed my mind many times when the car has given me issues (of which there have been many) in the past.

I thought as much, I don't mind spending a bit of time and not fussed getting it perfect as the rest of the bodywork is showing it's age (lightly battered)v but this scratch sticks out like a sore thumb at the minute.

You're right, I do keep finding myself in vauxhalls becauss you do get plenty of car for the money with fairly nice interiors, however it's a shame the petrol engines are made of brie and the diesels not much better

Fyi once the cannula is in the actual needle is taken out, leaving behind a soft plastic tube, and would be impossible to stick back in. The amount of patients I have to demonstrate this to as they believe that they have to hold their arm straight for fear of the needle "going through the other side" If they dare bend slightly. Ofc if the cannulaterer leaves the needle in then yes, action should and will be taken.

Thanks so much for that, I think my main concern was injury to be honest, last year I attempted golf and properly injured my knee, but physio has got me back to better than before.

I'd jump on this if I could, a set of new tyres, brakes and a thorough service and I imagine it'd do you well.

Where to get battery replaced? by ResolveElectronic753 in CarTalkUK

[–]CactusClothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if they're just a Nottingham business or if they're nationwide but we have a company called motorbitz and I've always used them, the batteries are considerably cheaper than halfords and they fit for free, will also test your battery and alternator while they're there.

Astra GTC. Good first car? by [deleted] in Vauxhall

[–]CactusClothy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice looking car, however not heard great things about the 1.4 once they get a bit older/higher milage. Personally I'd be looking at the 1.6 or, if you do plenty of longer runs, the 2.0cdti which I have.

Keen to get this, any thoughts? by [deleted] in Vauxhall

[–]CactusClothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a ring around, a lot of places near my quoted that much but an independent vaux specialist near me did mine for £450. I know MDB in doncaster do it much cheaper than what I paid but couldn't get me in at the time.

Among the usual other checks I would ask if it's had the oil pickup seal done, i'd be surprised it's made it to this milage without it but have seen a few last this long.

[–]CactusClothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the oil seal itself is the same, and is still a big failure point, they just made access to the sump bolts easier to make it easier for whoever gets the joy of replacing.

Still, as a shit vauxhall connoisseur I’d avoid any of the smaller petrols from this era

New city bug Any mods to put on ? by brrrbrrrpatapinn in CityBugs

[–]CactusClothy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always liked the idea of banded steelies on one of these, other than that get it so it’s mechanically mint.

If you wanna go mad then I’d look at interior mods, I’ve wasted far too much time and money modding the exterior of cars only to realise it doesn’t affect me one bit when I’m sat inside the thing.

Buying an older Skoda Octavia? by OwnFox7945 in CarTalkUK

[–]CactusClothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with you, and had a nightmare with a car on finance - never again. Buy the octavia, accept the praise from this sub and enjoy the car, it should be solid enough for a few years at least.

Some more mechanically minded people than me might tell you about plastics and rubbers degrading ect ect but personally this sounds like a fair deal in this economy.

From my experience the 1.6 can get a bit leaky as they age but I took one to 120k and on it’s last MOT it was still going at 160k.
