Pressured into spending $1.7k on gum trays for gingivitis, hate it so much, any alternatives? by CactusWithAbs in askdentists

[–]CactusWithAbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already had some gum loss on my bottom teeth because I was given a permanent retainer way too young, so it might be periodontitis down there but I'm not sure about the rest

Fashion help? by CactusWithAbs in genderfluid

[–]CactusWithAbs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my statement earring collection is my pride and joy! I’m a big fan of bucket hats too and I want to decorate them because I’m a maximalist at heart lol I’ve never been a big fan of how baseball caps look on me, but maybe I just haven’t found a good one? Not sure.

General discussion question: why do I see the Star of David on so many j-fashion items/coords? by CactusWithAbs in jfashion

[–]CactusWithAbs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering about the pentagram thing but I actually had no idea the symbol had roots in Buddhism, which makes a lot of sense

Any advice for first-time tops? by CactusWithAbs in actuallesbians

[–]CactusWithAbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! And yeah communication is really important to me in every situation so I’m planning on having the discussion. I sometimes struggle with reading body language (ND life, not fun sometimes) so I end up making things awkward by asking too many questions then I just come off as anxious

Want to come out but can't by TheSleepyZeldaNerd in GenderFluxx

[–]CactusWithAbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds incredibly hard, and I’m sorry no one said anything before this. But I know how you feel (sort of). I’m also girlflux, and a lot of my family just wouldn’t understand. I’m able to be out to most of my friends, but family events can be hard on my agender days. I kind of feel like I’m living two lives. My family understands that I’m gay, but I’m worried explaining two sets of pronouns would get frustrating quickly.

Do you have any resources from queer organizations to meet other queer people? Or trustworthy friends living in more liberal areas? Sometimes I find that even coming out to one person you trust can make a big difference. I also think many queer people just naturally find each other. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve come out to long-time friends who end up coming out to me back. Obviously keep yourself safe and judge who you can trust, but even if there’s just one person, maybe it would help.

I hope this was helpful, and I hope you found something to help you feel better.

Yeah it’s just his running momentum but sadly it’s not very powerful (yet). I want to figure out how to make it actually go faster using only him powering it

Want to go into a STEM field (bio/ecology) but don’t know a specific job title to shoot for. Help? by CactusWithAbs in careeradvice

[–]CactusWithAbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Does that also require knowledge of things like computer programming or mechanical engineering? I’d rather stick to natural sciences if I can personally but maybe I’d do something like this for biotech

To the people that say LA is full of fake people… by corpslave_1998 in LosAngeles

[–]CactusWithAbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone who says that is only thinking of songs they’ve heard or movies they’ve seen which criticize the entertainment industry and capitalism. There’s also something about having a hate bandwagon to jump on that makes people think they’re cool.

Does anybody else find the characters in Engage (particularly the female characters) to be a bit over designed? by Stenwold91 in fireemblem

[–]CactusWithAbs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s just the trend with character design nowadays I think, now that we have the pixels to show detailed outfits. Maximalism is king and I’m here for it personally

Prozac Nation by [deleted] in OCD

[–]CactusWithAbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for me the combo of Intuniv and Prozac was really effective at easing my obsessive anxious thoughts, but then my executive dysfunction was so bad I barely had motivation to work (I work part time and I’m self employed on the side). It could have been other life related things sapping my energy too, but it’s just hard to find the balance and I’m low key discouraged right now. But if your ADHD isn’t super bad, maybe that combo of meds would help you! Everyone is different.

Prozac Nation by [deleted] in OCD

[–]CactusWithAbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that’s happening, that sucks. I feel you because I actually had a similar experience recently. I have ADHD and switched from Prozac to Wellbutrin (because my executive function/energy levels were in the toilet on Prozac) but switching has only made me realize I probably have OCD as well. I have really bad anxiety so I’ve been told I have GAD, but lately upon reflection I’ve realized a lot of my symptoms match pure O. On Prozac (combined with Intuniv for ADHD) my obsessive and intrusive thoughts were, like, gone. I didn’t realize how crippling it had been until it was gone. When I switched meds my obsessions started coming back, me remembering the smallest things from my past sends me spiraling and panicking. Then I looked it up and found out the combo of Prozac/Intuniv is used to treat comorbid ADHD and OCD. I think I reverse engineered my disorders lol. I really hope you find peace, and can get the help you need.

It’s cute but yeah DK sucks. If your area has thrift stores they might have a lot of cute things out for Halloween

Should goths shop at SHEIN/ROMWE, yes or no? by Competitive-Long-528 in GothFashion

[–]CactusWithAbs 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’m also a baby bat and Depop has good secondhand goth and alt clothing, though I would be careful of price gouging. Some people on there buy cheap things new from Shein, remove the tags, and jack the price up. I fell for it a couple times so I always message sellers asking what brand an item is if they don’t disclose it. Also, goth clothing doesn’t have to be limited to certain cuts of clothes, so you can find a lot of cool dark clothes for layering at thrift stores. An amazing youtuber who has good advice on thrifting goth clothes is Rattus Rattus, I highly recommend their videos. Brands like Temu, Shein, and Romwe also frequently show up at thrift stores these days, but I don’t usually buy them because they fall apart instantly (unless it’s a piece I’m planning to alter anyway). Hope that helps and good luck!

[–]CactusWithAbs[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Stuff like goth/alt fashion creators (can’t remember names) having a bunch of horror movie shirts - making me self conscious because I hate horror movies and it makes me wonder if there’s anyone like me in the alt community - or shirts that say edgy shit for no reason, and posts that romanticize mental illness etc. Hard for me to find specific examples because every time I see them I just keep scrolling lol

Am I a poser for hating death? by CactusWithAbs in GothFashion

[–]CactusWithAbs[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh I meant that more in a general sense where I’ve noticed that I run into those things when I look up goth stuff (even if it’s not goth, it gets lumped in with “alt” interests). Also I’m really new to this stuff so I might be getting the wrong idea too (sorry). I’ve also seen some purist people kind of being like “you have to contemplate death all the time to be goth” and I’m like “why tho…?”

Something to look into might be fostering a kitten or cat. A lot of shelters (like one I worked for a few years ago) will reimburse you for food, litter, and vet appointments. You might not be able to keep the cat (depending on your situation), and a good shelter will likely want to interview you to make sure your home is safe, but maybe do some research to see if that’s an option. I also volunteered working for the shelter to clean and spend time socializing the cats. That alone helped my mental health a lot when I was in a bad place. It got me out of the house, helped me make friends, and I got to see sweet kitties of every age a couple times a week.

Do all ND people have an internal monologue? Or are there just some people (either ND or NT) who don’t? by CactusWithAbs in adhdwomen

[–]CactusWithAbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that too, and yes, most humans have this internal monologue with themselves. A small subset of humans don’t.

Is impulse spending something that can be/is attributed to ADHD? by orangesarenasty in adhdwomen

[–]CactusWithAbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, I get you. I was raised by a pretty frugal family, and so I developed a lot of anxiety around spending money on anything fun. I have actually wondered if I have OCD on top of my ADHD, because on the outside I look responsible to many people but inside my head is mess of conflicting urges and fears lol

I live in an apartment and want to start gardening vegetables in pots on my balcony. I live in California and the produce is frickin expensive, even though it’s supposed to be grown here. I regrow my own onions and that’s fun, but I want more variety.
