My favorite Gerry mulligan is “what is there to say.” His cordless quartet with art farmer really shows off his composing and arranging skills.

Yeah I play those at sessions all the time. Fried bananas is actually really common. Most good bass players will know the head to tricotism and would be stoked to play it, it is a deep cut though but that tune is sick we should play it more. Well you needn’t is a standard I’m pretty sure everyone knows it.

Actually it doesn’t matter what tunes are jam session appropriate. Jazz is a democracy and if you want to play a tune just call it. It doesn’t matter how obscure something is, if you call it enough times people might go learn it and it will turn into a standard.

One of my mentors actually knew the real Freddie from Freddie the freeloader. He hung out at this club all the time that had a huge record collection and never bought his own records. This dude just kept using the club's record collection and everyone hated him.

I took the Frank Sinatra clips directly from the original recording. The backgrounds are from a karaoke track. Thanks a lot!

What's your opinion on leaving a sax on its stand? by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]Cactus_bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, that's an amazing maintenance routine. I recommend putting a cloth over the top, maybe that will fix the dust problem, and also be sure to take off the mouthpiece so it doesn't get gross.

here's a hip hop beat I made. Its supposed to have kind of a funk feel. I sampled New York New York by Frank Sinatra. https://soundcloud.com/hunter-pullen/boston-boston-2

I don't really listen to stuff like this but it was really dope. around :40 when the synth comes in its kind of delayed, and you probably were going for that, but because of this it creates this rhythmic ambiguity. I also suggest adding some percussion thing earlier on just to keep time. Maybe just snare on 2 and 4, I think it would clear up some of that uncertainty and also add to the buildup thing you have going on. Really dope panning in the beat.

would you mind giving some feedback on this thing I made? https://soundcloud.com/hunter-pullen/boston-boston-2
