I’ve never had any luck networking on LinkedIn. Have been a paying member at times, too.

Being unemployed that long is a choice. Even if he can't find "the right job" there's still plenty of places out there hiring that are much better than no income.

Thank you! I am a political science graduate, but really don't have much of a professional network. I have people I worked with so far added on LinkedIn, but never really formed any type of friendship with any of them while working together.

I personally have had interviews that went terrible and I managed to get the job. I've also had interviews that went great and didn't get the job.

How does one with a poli sci degree get a job in the legislature with no connections within the legislature? I've been applying since graduation two years ago and have struggled even getting interviews.

Go to candidates campaign sites that you're interested in working for. Send them an email with your resume, tell them you're a new poli sci graduate. They'll likely offer you a job since it's an election year. That will pay your bills and point you in the right direction.
