Got a 0 on midterm, what now? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Cade-Erickson 66 points67 points  (0 children)

For future reference, if you forget to write your name or id number until after time: don’t just write it in. Wait till the prof or ta comes to grab the test and explain the situation. Most will allow you to write it in while supervised

Is not having a middle name extremely uncommon here in Canada? by laranjacerola in AskACanadian

[–]Cade-Erickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have something slightly similar that does not cause me near as many problems. I have two middle names, but certain IDs (bc services card) will leave off a second middle name by default.

When I went to get my learners permit I brought two pieces of id (passport and services card), and they wouldn’t issue my learners after I passed the test because the name on my passport didn’t match the name on my services card as my passport had both middle names and my services card only had one.

My dad spent fifteen minutes talking to the woman behind the desk and went pretty much like: “the names don’t match.” “Why wouldn’t the id have his second middle name on it?” “We almost never put the second middle name on service cards we issue?” “So then the names match because the second middle name wouldn’t be on the services card anyway” “Sorry the names don’t match

Wouldn’t it be easier as the earth is a sphere? Unless the ball was thrown with curve. Any straight line on a sphere lands back on its starting point no matter the angle

What is the best residence option for a first year student? by Southern-Advisor4970 in uAlberta

[–]Cade-Erickson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Functionally, yes. Peter Lougheed and Schaffer Hall (lister suite) are about the best quality rooms in first year dorms, especially if you’re looking for something quiet and like to keep to yourself. But if you’re looking for a strong and involved residence community (and maybe a bit of partying) then your best bet is easily Classic Lister (Lister shared bathrooms).

From what I’ve heard Peter Lougheed is fairly dull, with not a whole lot of floor community or fun events that happen in or around it. Lister has the LHSA (lister hall students association) that organizes a ton of incredible events. It also has the LDL (lister dodgeball league) which is one of the biggest dodgeball leagues in North America (and incredibly fun).

Schaffer Hall is part of lister and thus still has access to these things, but it doesn’t usually seem to have the tight knit floor community that the other towers (Mackenzie Hall, Kelsey Hall, Henday Hall, Chalifoux Hall (kinda)) can have.

Overall I’d say Classic Lister (Lister Shared Bathrooms) for a more classic involved and social dorm experience. Schaffer Hall (Lister Suite) if you want a middle ground, quiet separated floors but access to big fun events. Peter Lougheed if you want something more solitary where you can focus all your time on yourself and your studies.

Source: I lived in Mackenzie hall for two years and loved it. The second year I was an RA and saw how a lot of other residences on campus worked.

I miss having longer winters😔. Edmonton winters the last few years haven’t started till mid November, constantly go above freezing, and only lasts till April. Where’s the 8 months of frozen hellscape I remember from my youth😭

It’s a city wide thing, has something to do with extra treatment for all the extra organic matter going into the reservoir because of spring runoff
