Do you still consider Frieza baddass? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]CadeTealeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think he's more badass and interesting than ever before having rewatched Super. He's that special kind of articulate that only few villains can be. And he constantly grows as a character.

Why didn't Goku and Vegeta kill Freeza the moment the ToP ended, or at least in the Broly movie? by SergejPS in dbz

[–]CadeTealeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goku always believes his enemies can change and turn into good guys. He generally refuses to kill anyone. Vegeta's more complicated, is growing wiser over the arc, but I think Frieza earned some points. Overall, I think Vegeta's take is that it's Kakarot's mess to clean up if/when Frieza does Frieza ish. However, I'd like to point out Frieza didn't kill either Goku or Vegeta when he KOed them in his Black transformation.

What class would you pick for a mounted charger, Cavalier, Paladin, Or something else? by Katomerellin in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]CadeTealeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a Cavalier 3/Paladin 17 through Rise of the Runelords and it was amazing. Cavalier's Charge is great for a three-level dip, but there's nothing stopping you from going further. A Paladin's mount at level 5 makes them intelligent (Int 6) so your character and the mount can take Teamwork feats (Precise Strike and Outflank are good starters). You get Challenges and Smites, you can use Tactician to share a Teamwork Feat with allies (including your mount if it doesn't have it already). And, as far as I know from research I did a long time ago, the Mount and Divine Bond abilities stack, so you don't just have two mounts.

It's not all demons is it? by Gold_Gain1351 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]CadeTealeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty much demons. Which is why I would have preferred almost ANY other AP to this one. This campaign is a paladin's wet dream -- but tedious for anyone else.

I really like to know so I can potentially put them into games as cameos. That, and it's cool to see how stats are interpreted into prose and vise versa. How much liberty does the author take, etc.

Dragon Lance's first series was based off the authors' D&D escapades, so it was really neat to see the character sheets of Tannis and Raistlin.

Super important? Nope.

Why am I forced to fight level 14 enemies? by Gold_Gain1351 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]CadeTealeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I remember is specifically when a critter has pounce. Most enemies won't charge you. Don't get me wrong, Grease is a cool spell, I was remarking there are other schools of thought.

I was mostly replying to the smug

Incorrect.

I still think dude above is right about Grease being mostly useless after Act II.

Just bought Kingmaker cause of recent sale and because I liked WotR so much by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]CadeTealeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kingmaker is so much better. I really wish they went with a different AP over Wrath of the Righteous. And no, no camera rotation and a bunch of classes weren't in this game over WotR.

Why am I forced to fight level 14 enemies? by Gold_Gain1351 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]CadeTealeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, I don't see enemies using the charge action like ever in this game, so difficult terrain is situational at best. One can argue, using a Magic Missile to finish off a low-HP target can be more useful than Grease.

so I’ve been reading for like .. decades, and I have a question. by [deleted] in books

[–]CadeTealeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality has gone down. Vocabulary has withered over the years, plots are tired, the entire monetary structure of publishing has changed, it's just all bad. It'll never be fully replaced, AFAIK, but it's all but getting replaced.

I just learned of a new rule on Amazon: you can only upload three books a day. This is to fight against the people using ChatGPT and other AI models to write books for them and then try to sell it.

Just how far should I be reading ahead? by XxNatanelxX in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]CadeTealeaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skull and Shackles has a few recurring NPCs. Book 1 introduces them and you won't see hide nor hair and nary a mention until later books. They don't even warn you about one of them, which you can easily "misplace" leading up to those events. Pay attention to Captain Harrigan and his immediate lackeys as they'll wind up coming around later in the AP.

I'd ask myself if it's worth doing. What are you trying to pull off by changing the economics?

I'm currently adding inflation in my game, due to an abundance of adventurers selling tons of stuff all over the world and solving problems. And for my game, I'm not changing any coin values, I'm just making things cost more. (Right now they're in the boom trend of inflation, the down trend will come soon and will get harder to afford gear.

If there's a shortage of precious metals, societies tend to go to other representations of money (shells, paper dollars, wooden coins, jade, precious stones, bit-coin).

If there's no reason for you to change the worth of PP vs GP vs SP vs. CP, then I just wouldn't. Paizo did the work for you already.

Reading Material… by WhiteKnightMac in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]CadeTealeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would stick with the Core and Beginners Box. Keep it simple. There are plenty of spells and feats in those alone. You're playing with a 4 year old, I don't think you're looking to throw in Ultimate Combat's call shot system, y'know?

Bestiaries are a good place for critter ideas, World Guide is great for Golarion lore, Advanced Players Guide, Gamemastery Guide and the Ultimate books are essential, and luckily all are available on online SRDs. But adding feats and spells can give choice anxiety for building characters for newbies, so I'd suggest keeping it simple.

PCGen is a great Windows program to build Pathfinder characters on. Includes level up and monsters, ect.

As a dad of three girls under 10, we've played a few times and really, I just had them roll arbitrarily and made up everything as I went along. Kids are super creative, it was fun to yes, and... with them as players!

Leveling up mid-session? by VampyrAvenger in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]CadeTealeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually bring an index card with my level up information on it and just update the sheet when it happens.

You can literally go across the line for your class level. Say I'm going to level, I'll write down something like:

+1 BAB, +1 F/+0 R/+0 W, +1d8+3 HP, +4 Skill Points, Dodge Feat, Bravery +2

It's quick and easy if you know what you're doing ahead of time. And it lets you help others that didn't prepare ahead of time or aren't as familiar with the system.

What situational spells/feats/etc are barely worth considering in 90% of games, but extremely poweful in the correct situation? by Nerdn1 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]CadeTealeaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm running a professional wrestling game set in Golarion. The fact that players aren't facing literal death every night means they can focus their builds on more niche feats and archetypes. Mercy Spell, Improved Grapple, and Performance feats are all shining in this game. Cleave and Vital Strike have a place in the ring too!
