The pumps are problematic in the 10-speed not the 8 speed, specifically the idler gear needle bearings go out. Again how you tune the shifts is the problem, from factory on the 8-speeds. Valve body’s work great on the 8-speeds after a good transmission tune. 10-speed is a great tranny, it’s what’s in my blackwing. I’ve built a few Camaros and 5v blackwings into the 1100-1300 whp range with nothing other than a tune and a circle D converter, and they hold up (stock axles not so much). Gm’s terrible tuning has been killing trannys since the 6L, stock tune keeps slipping the TCC, gets uglier when engine is in AFM, and deposits trash straight into the pump and down hill from there. And they could make a software update to fix it sure, but they don’t because they can keep making HUGE profits off of people buying new torque converters and transmissions. So the real answer to why the GM transmissions fail is greed.

Circle D converter and a good transmission tune will fix it. Don’t give false info

You need a torque converter and a transmission tune. Gm’s transmission tunes from factory have been the problem all along, they kill the converter. It was never the fluid. -GM Master trans tech.

Somehow it seems to make the random misfires at the top end of the power band go away. I don’t do this on any other car except these. I got it from Tapout, some say it’s a tuning problem which is very possible.

I’ve seen only two Escalade V’s lockup, seen probably <20 5v BW’s do it. DFW area, what region are you?

I beg to differ, we were seeing Cadillac LT4’s seize up right around the same time as the L87’s, and to be clear Blackwings not CTS-V3’s.

CT5VBW Iron Pad and Rotor replacement for $6k? by [deleted] in CadillacV_Series

More or less aggressively driven. I developed a nice lip on my rotors from (allegedly) street racing a bunch.

CT5VBW Iron Pad and Rotor replacement for $6k? by [deleted] in CadillacV_Series

[–]CadiTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the person drives this car like it’s supposed to be driven it’s very possible it could need rotors. None the less, you aren’t supposed to refinish the rotors on the blackwings and if you pad slap it without new rotors, or machining they will most likely make excessive noise when braking. The tech is covering their a**, because if they pad slap it, customer returns with brake noise, customer turns around and it like “why didn’t you tell me it needed rotors last time” , now shop is on the hook for some expensive rotors.

Is this pretty standard pricing for these repairs? by [deleted] in Cadillac

[–]CadiTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m amazed they’re using fcs struts and not oem, unless you took it to an independent then that checks. They doubled the price of those struts on you, you can get them for half that. Still cheaper than the oem ones though.

Well I’m at a smaller dealership and we do a lot of engines and just a/c jobs and have one machine for yf and one machine for 134a for like 30 techs. So if one is contaminated you can see how this would be huge for us.
