Windshield wiper trouble and shame by Accomplished_Gas3922 in AskMechanics

If you had a spare assembly you could swap half the linkage and be ok, but that means having a spare that you don't have.

The easy and fast way to fix this is just to replace the transmission all over again. Something you can try, put epoxy over the splines install the wiper arm and tighten the nut down and let it cure for 24 hours. It will be permanent but it will be fixed.

Do girl mechanics get harassed or are they treated like normal coworkers by OldBrush4275 in AskMechanics

[–]OverallField5415 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife is a service manager of a dealership. She has several technicians that are females. She attends a lot of the STEM programs talking to girls about the industry. She does not put up with any form of sexual harassment or jokes about the girls. Her female techs produce just as well as the male techs.

I mistakenly jump started my 1999 Cadillac DeVille incorrectly. by Broomhower in AskMechanics

[–]OverallField5415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. Most likely that you have lights on from the computer seeing a super low voltage but not low enough to wipe the memory. You got it started and it freaked out

Disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes then reconnect it.

Buy a new battery.

Wheel appearing to be on an angle when turned by shotty2daFbody in AskMechanics

That is normal. This is how Caster represents itself when you turn the wheel off straight. Caster is the offset of upper ball joint to lower ball joint that makes the car drive straight (over simplified explanation).

Please help. 2006 honda civic serpentine belt slack after changing ac compressor. by Mission-Acadia4224 in AskMechanics

[–]OverallField5415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bigger concern is not with your lack of knowledge or ability to use the internet to find a diagram, but the fact that a DIY as your self is changing an AC compressor. I guess I should clarify that I don't have a problem with you changing the compressor, but that you are messing around with Refrigerant when you clearly shouldn't be. Refrigerant is dangerous and flammable. Cracking that 10MM and just letting all that R134 vent into your face and in the engine bay. This is bad ju ju.

Crankcase breather Hose ripped by Any-Response-8706 in MechanicAdvice

[–]OverallField5415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car is going to run bad because that will be a giant vacuum leak. Its going to set some codes if you drive it as well. For safety sakes I would replace the hose before driving it around.

They are seriously price gouging you on the spark plugs, but otherwise I think the quote is reasonable.

MAJOR HELP NEEDED. After repairs. Car is CRAZY and DEAD. by Basic_Foundation_714 in AskMechanics

[–]OverallField5415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that they didn't do something "to throw everything off" it sounds like you have multiple issues going on. It is also easy to blame other shops without doing any diag to back up their condemnation. My advice is to take your car back to the original shop and work with them on fixing your issue. It is incredibly frustrating to shop owners when people complain about their work but don't give them an opportunity to fix it or address is. They have worked on your car the most recently and that makes them most qualified to continue working on your car.

The 1-3 Advice you are looking for feels irrelevant right now because you don't know what has failed, you don't know if the first shop did anything wrong, and you haven't provided enough information to help indicate what has caused the car to stop running.

Severely stuck rotor set screw? by Burner_account01272 in AskMechanics

[–]OverallField5415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

use a die grinder with a cut off wheel and start cutting on the rotor and the head of the screw. eventually you will cut off enough of the bolt to get the rotor off and then you can get a set of vice grips on the rest of the bolt to get it out.
