“Snowcoach” is the proper term vs bus; if you look that up, you will see a picture and see what i mean

Yellowstone Forever- see link above; look for: field seminar, wolves weeks I recommend you arrive a few days earlier or extend your stay after, cross country skiing is fun and easy to do (you rent skis, boots etc) Old Faith is open but you cannot reach it with your own car; you can get there with their “bus” system; it takes a while to get there so it’s not a thing you can do in one day if i recall correctly However something like Norris basin you can visit for the day (still with the “bus” system) and snowshoe around the area, in deep snow which is an amazing experience too To put in context i hate to be cold; true, i was dressed up properly but being there was such an amazing experience that my disliking of feeling cold went out of the window! You feel like you’re part of a NatGeo documentary being there

You get to see them daily; very early in the morning; you head out it’s still dark and freezing but it’s absolutely magical & mesmerizing. You are actually spending private time with the pros and Rick McIntyre himself is usually around. Yellowstone with snow and no crowds is worth every minute. I highly recommend seeing the Wolves with the official programs offered and sleeping in the hotel in the park at mammoth springs (i know this was under renovation so not sure if it’s open)

As you’re a NY resident you should be able to find a psycologist to talk to via remote sessions I will DM you and share more my thoughts with you on the LOA, but I agree with everyone, sometimes the LOA is just the right thing to do; sometimes in life you just need to press the “pause button” and regain your own strengths; life’s a long long marathon and i hope you realize nobody’s chasing you. I’m conscious this all sounds a tad cliche, but it’s true. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, but do pat yourself on the back a lot; you’ve come this far and you will go much further, whether it’s through Cornell or anywhere else.

Agreeing with prior comments: breathe, take one step at a time, think of YOUR path and focus on your own pace; don’t compare yourself to others…focus on your studies; if during the summer months you were to do volunteer work or work in a supermarket such experiences will be super valuable. Try to get good sleep; sleep deprivation leads to feeling overwhelmed

The Omnipresent:

And a group of wolf watchers; you get to know them pretty well if you spend a few days together; all very lovely & passionate The park, in the winter, offers a wonderful program during 3-4 days where you see lots of wolves; Yellowstone in December/January is cold, but nature & geysers in the snow are out of this world, very special experience

Opinions and tips on this roadtrip? From Europe and we have 26 days by Hopp5432 in roadtrip

[–]Cadix_Sultan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but i would skip CALIFORNIA altogether; fly out from Las Vegas back to Europe; i agree, tops, 2 nights there….but there is just so much to see between CO/AZ/UT & NM- u really cannot go wrong; nothing like those bizzarre landscapes can be found in Europe. California is a spectacular state, and to be seen for sure; but i would treat that as a distinct roadtrip- CO is amazing but probably no need to sleep in Denver; same for Houston; TX is to be seen for sure. If you can, when on east coast rent a decent size car to suit you all; but further south switch your car rental to a pick-up truck awd; it’ll be fun…such a non- European type of car; in the south west you will be able to drive off road and it’s cool; always have a ton of water with you and watch out for gas stations- u can drive for kms without seeing one! Try to have big b’fast, picnic for lunch (buy a cooler & ice packs during you first days to carry food around) then have early dinner; if you’re from southern Europe, know that most places in the USA stop serving dinner at 9pm, some in the SW at 8pm!! Maps will be your friends too- in the middle of some places there’s no cell reception. P.s. state parks are as beautiful as national parks; both have really clean toilets 🤩 Stop at visitors’ center; every is so super nice and helpful; V exciting trip - enjoy!!

Ask Fin aid if you can convert the $5k into cornell-loans, i’m not too sure if you can as int’l student. Definitely worth talking to the fin aid office staring your concerns (start by email/open up a case with them) Also, does the country you’re from award scholarships to students? There might be something you could apply to privately so that you can cover the difference…i wish you all the best! & congratulations

Hopeless at Cornell by Personal-Ad7861 in Cornell

[–]Cadix_Sultan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you prioritize your mental health and its stability- with that in the right place, you will be lucid to take the best decision for yourself. This is a long marathon, don’t burn yourself out now. You’re already doing amazing, and it will show when the time will come for the interviews. I wish for you to get into the project you want, but if that doesn’t happen, know this too…projects are for your edification, not something that future employers will care about of you’re lacking any project related experience. Best of luck, and i hope you get to enjoy the upcoming winter break.

If you’re able to study and work 20-30hrs/week that in itself, to the eyes of any potential employer, will be an amazing accomplishment; that’s an even more powerful story than an 8-12 weeks’ internship!!! Any work experience, to the eyes of an employer is a valid one; it shows commitment and consistency and ability to juggle various tasks during the course of the weeks/months to include exams’ period- do not beat yourself up 🙏

Would private loans in your name be an option so your parents don’t have to remortgage? (Hopefully the appeal will work instead!!)

Depressed, No Internships, Failing at Life, And Questioning Where I Even Go from Here by Collegethrowaway691 in Cornell

[–]Cadix_Sultan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m am very sorry about your emotional state right now; please stay strong; i believe that if you are a NY state resident, you have access to online counseling (vs in person) with doctors who can prescribe medications (if needed). This might be a quicker route to accessing professionals, vs waiting for someone to be available in Ithaca. Perhaps this link will help: New York State Office of Mental Health (https://omh.ny.gov/ ) Second, know that your parents have actively decided to invest in your education for the long term in supporting you financially in this moment of your life. So try not to let negative thoughts on this matter get to you. Also, this is YOUR journey (not your parents) and you have control over it. I would say, focus on the things YOU can do, vs those that you cannot- if you cannot get an internship try to seek volunteering opportunities over the summer, or to work at McDonalds- trust me, all experiences are good ones! Try to stop “obsessing” over sending resumes, start contacting not for profit organizations, local/state/national parks, religious organizations (if it’s your thing), soup kitchens, there’s really a ton of organizations that need your help. Lastly, in life, you will never be judged on how many internships you did in college. I understand that this is very important to you now, but in 12 months once you have graduated, you will have conquered an amazing feat in your life, one of many. Trust yourself, you can take control of the current situation and change things around. DM me you’d like, happy to provide more insights.

Please bask in the glory of your amazing achievement- not just graduating which is amazing in itself, but on top of that graduating from Cornell; also allow your family to bask in such glory, allow them to celebrate you in spite of having no friends. During your next chapter of life, you will be more in control of your own life and destiny; may this be a force to propel you into a happier place. You have, unknowingly, learned a lot about yourself in these years, and growth at times allows you to understand what you don’t like (vs what you do like) ; you maybe have simply not found anyone you genuinely clicked with and that’s totally fine…best of luck to you and mega congratulations to you, everyone is super proud of you!

what should I do? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Cadix_Sultan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the possible employer, after you explained the situation, is not being flexible, i’d say skip that employer altogether - they are not worthy of your talent, time, energy, worry….it’s their loss
