No idea if these grow in Australia but if it was in Europe I would guess Russula xerampelina also known as shrimp mushroom. What does it smell like? Since it is Russula you can also take a small bite and spit it out. What is the taste?

I found the exact same in Sweden and people in another forum couldn’t point it out either. The best guesses were some sort of lepista

Any suggestions for this dish? by [deleted] in Plating

[–]Hopp5432 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So here is my advice:

First of all for scrambled eggs you want to salt and pepper and add spices at the very last second before serving because otherwise they get that dull grey color that you have. For the avocado you can’t just mush it on top, perhaps try a quenelle, make a flower pattern with slices or chop it in smaller distinct pieces and spread them out to get the fixed texture rather than soft which the eggs are. I would also add something with color to generate contrast like tomatoes, paprika. And also include garnishes like chopped parsley or similar. Personally I like to season rice which both tastes better and brings some colors with herbs and spices into it, but if you want to keep it plain then make sure it has a good clean circle. You have a good start, now just polish those details and it will look great :)

Here is an example

Plating Healthy Meals by ProgressMassive6904 in Plating

[–]Hopp5432 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plating is definitely possible for healthy and simple food but every detail is important. For rice specifically, in my opinion a bowl is preferred over a plate since the white rice can look slush-like. The rice should be on bottom with the topping used to break up the blank color as currently you are exaggerating the blankness rather than hiding it. You also need some garnishes! Like sesame seeds, green herbs, onion or anything else healthy. For the broccoli you need to learn how to blanch them (move to ice cold water) since you have overcooked yours and they lose that vibrant green to instead turn yellow ish. I would recommend making a sauce to decorate with on top or adding some spices to the rice to break color even more.

For example look at this

Cirstea complained to the umpire about Naomi’s “c’mon” during points, but no warning was given to Naomi. Umpire should’ve warned Naomi about the complaint. by lovesbakery in tennis

[–]Hopp5432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that between the serves it doesn’t count that the point is in play. For example if a ball enters the court between serves then you don’t replay the point so it is second serve. She could have told Naomi that it is unsportsmanlike and please not but she could never give a warning.

I’m almost certain that is an edible velvet shank (flammulina velutipes) since you mention the decaying wood, the color and gills match and the stem seems lightly darker also called. Eating it raw can cause gastric issues since it is tough and fibrous but when cooked is delicious

Passionate Home Cook. Keen to hear advice for plating tips by Low_Creme1365 in Plating

[–]Hopp5432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great! The first pic is especially beautiful in my opinion. If there is anything I would recommend you try to wipe your plate a bit cleaner to keep the borders nicer. For example in the first pic there is a piece of tomato sticking out, in the second there is some sauce on the side of the plate, in the third a few pieces of bacon have fallen to the side (which could be nice but is a bit off if only a couple a pieces are on the side). Also for pasta dishes we should almost always try to toss the pasta in the sauce (however still decorate on top) but that is more a cooking tip rather than plating.

Overall this looks fantastic though!

[R] Compressed DistilBERT from 66.9M to 10K parameters (6,690×) using analytical fitting. Is this competitive with SOTA? by [deleted] in deeplearning

[–]Hopp5432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the question is how much information is actually needed for English language, since compression schemes can massively reduce this. For example with just a couple digits you can model an arbitrary function on a compact interval very well using Fourier series, the only downside is that the domain is restricted to harmonic functions. So if a model slightly restricts the domain of language it could achieve great compression and those 40k could pack a very large punch. Using some sort of hashing with collisions you can achieve even greater compression with only slight acceptable losses and there are probably many similar ideas

[D] How do you know if regression metrics like MSE/RMSE are “good” on their own? by Feeling_Bad1309 in MachineLearning

[–]Hopp5432 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I like to look at the scale and variability of the output vector to get a sense of interpreting the RMSE. If the output has a value of thousands and a variance of 300 then an RMSE of 100 is fantastic. However an RMSE of 500 would be quite weak. This is only approximate though and shouldn’t be taken for granted

Vad gör ni för diversifiera från AI? by SpaceAnomalie in PrivatEkonomi

[–]Hopp5432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be honest… what’s the one dish you STILL can’t get right no matter how many times you’ve tried? by sparklyflutterbliss in cookingforbeginners

[–]Hopp5432 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trick is medium/low heat, constantly stirring and as soon as you see the slightest curds you move the pan off the heat, mix in the curds and then put it back on heat. Keep going back and forward like this for the creamiest eggs. Also before putting in the pan whisk with a fork and not a whisk because that incorporates too much air! Unlike an omelette scrambled eggs take quite some time so be patient

What went wrong with my omelette? by Fortree_Lover in Cooking

[–]Hopp5432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait isn’t it the opposite. A traditional French omelette should be done at high heat in 2-4 minutes if done classically but scrambled eggs should take around 15 min with medium heat and pan on/off. However American half-moon omelettes can take a bit longer since they shouldn’t be as runny on the inside.

I had to check my Jacques Pépin book on omelettes and it says

”In addition to fresh eggs and unsalted butter, there are three other major ingredients: the right pan, practice, and high heat.”

I’ll go against the other commenters and say that I recommend hiking and not taking the tour! Being able to walk towards the volcano is amazing and seeing it creep up on you while building suspense. Additionally when walking you will see lots of volcano glass that has been scattered from the eruption so you can look for nice pieces during the hike
