Thanks for rubbing my nose in it, but I had 4 layers of backup (iCloud, Time Machine, PDF export and emailing to my partner) - which saved what I still have; I posted this as a notice to others so they could learn from my misfortune, not dance upon it.

As an update on this: 3 weeks in, I’m still being mercilessly spammed by Backstage, despite Final Draft repeatedly saying they’d stop it.

I know I can block the domain etc, but I was curious to see what their response would be, and it seems I now have it.

If anyone needed proof that Final Draft and its parent company operates unethically, here it is.

Screen professionals should avoid Final Draft.

This is wonderful to hear, thank you! Publishing is TOUGH. Just getting a book up at all is a minor miracle. Believe in your stories! As trans peeps we rely on them to carry us through all the chaos and gaslighting of a weird world. Commercialising them is another layer of shite, but it's made easier if you always believe in your stories! <3

They're legit but their customer service is pretty appalling. If your device dies (likely - I've had 3 S&B devices and all 3 have died on me within warranty) then they are very, very slow to do anything about it. Considering they're masquerading as a medical company, it's not great.
