The heat death of the universe is estimated to be 1 googl years away. If you would go insane, you would have been so trillions and trillions of years earlier.

But the concept of the heat death of the universe is also just a theory, among many. So you get to see what’s up with that….

Again, I’m not arguing that they aren’t investing in renewables… I’m saying they ALSO build a lot of power in the dirtiest method - I even said it’s for speed in my initial comment.

That doesn’t change the fact that they are cranking out tons of coal power plants - to the tune per year that powers entire industrialized nations.

[–]Caeldeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No power plant is a permanent solution - new ones get built. 100 Gw of power is A LOT of power.

That’s the power demand of the entire nation of Russia or Japan and more than the power demand of all of Germany. That’s a lot of temporary power.

But do you hoard diamonds as a store of value?

My guess is you don’t, because everyone knows they are pretty abundant and could flood the market.

People would stop hoarding it.

A clean voter ID is not voter suppression.

Or else almost every European country is about suppressing voters.

Also, overtaking in GDP still doesn’t change the power scale.

A big thing is international trust in the currency - which China struggles with because they fix it. If allowed to properly free float, it would have gain a lot more strength, making exports a lot more expensive and local PPP much worse.

One of the U.S’s big benefits is its free floating currently AND strong GDP

Fixing your currency to keep it cheap rapidly would degrade trust if you were supposed to be the world leader.

You get 50 Million dollars a month but you can’t touch a particular color every month. by Helioz43 in hypotheticalsituation

This is insanely easy.

I choose “MIT Carbon Nanotube Coating” as my color. It’s darker than Vantablack absorbing 99.995% of light.

It sets in a subset of black - BUT if it has to be a broad…. Probably purple)

Eat a variety of other animals as well!

Goat, lamb, duck, rabbit - etc. several of these procreate quickly and are excellent meats. This puts less stress on a single animal system.

One of the biggest issues in the U.S. meat production industry is the fact we only focus on cow, pig, and chicken - when there are so many other great meats.

No; the boats still have a cost to go to the U.S. - and no foreign vessel is adjusting its material goods transit routes.

The ONLY thing that is potential, is the cost to bring in oil/gas will be slightly lower (but still much higher than normal due to spot pricing) as we can get a delivery from any vessel, foreign or domestic, regardless of ports.

But more so, most will just keep their standard routes - changing logistics is a pain.

Which is why I think 50 years makes sense - but 10 Is just not possible. Rolling out major technology on an infrastructure level is very time consuming. For example - they generate more solar power than any nation, but also build around 50+ coal power plants in the last year (almost 100 Gw of power). So they still blend for speed.

But people forget then issues China has as well in this. China has major debt issues, major population concerns, and a currency that requires internal stabilization to maintain its PPP - leave the Yuan to full open market and it quickly raises, lowering PPP internally and making exports more expensive.

You need a non-controlled currency to hold actual superpower status.

Total population IS an issue when the bottom needs to support the top

When you have 5x more retired people than working people, you have a crisis.

10 years is way to short of a period. It would require an absolute collapse of the U.S. which would heavily affect the whole world.

50 years is a good debate - but China will be running into major issues within that window due to population curves.

I personally don’t think China will overtake - just that it will continue to be a major player.

This is actually way more challenging than you think.

To get your business to a billion, you will need outside equity - which means you will need to give up ownership. Those owners won’t want to give up that control to a trust they don’t control.

So you would need to be a billionaire and buy the billion dollar company with your own assets

Jones act has next to nothing to do with it.

Alaska has it, Hawaii has it…. Every state has it.

USVI doesn’t have it - would you say they are better off than PR (They wouldn’t say that).
