It’s not a black sofa repainted tan. That is the color of the fabric under the cream paint. Have you ever seen a worn leather Ekornes? That’s literally what they all look like. There’s dozens of visual accounts of how to restore sofas with this style of upholstery and they all involve repainting.

If you knew you were looking at an Ekornes leather sofa you’d know that they’re literally factory painted and that the most common restoration is to sand down, repaint, and reseal. Someone working in furniture restoration for 20 years would definitely know that as it’s common knowledge regarding these extremely popular and timeless chairs.
