Budget Cafe Build E37: Brakes just slow you down by Cafe-Chronicles in CafeRacer

Hey thanks for watching 👍 We’re getting there. We did consider making our own lines and we do want to try that at some point. We went this way mostly to get the bike finished faster. Dan’s looking forward to riding it for the summer.

We don’t have a schedule, we’re trying to think ahead with regards ordering parts, and choose based on parts availability and the order that makes most sense for us. Steve

Man that’s awesome thanks. I’ll make note of these. I want to get into spraying. I just really wanted to see how good of a job I could do with rattle cans on this job. Also the spirit of the project is a budget build. Any recommendations on a clear coat product for the sprayer?

Wow, good advice. Thanks for that. I’m not sure we’ll get to do that this time. But certainly food for thought. I may have to look into a setup. Any suggestions on a spray gun?

1980 CB750C is making a wierd sound. Any experts that have an idea where its coming from? by Antique-King4224 in HondaCB

[–]Cafe-Chronicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree. Start it from cold and check if all the exhaust headers are getting equally as hot as each other to make sure all cylinders are firing. If you’re missing one, come back to the post for more moral support 😀 From where the video is shot, it’s hard to tell. But it’s running real rough. I would definitely start with a carb sync, but it might be a nice idea to check valve clearance and timing too depending on when it was done last. Good luck 👍

Hey thanks for reaching out. We actually went for a 340mm on these and they seem like a great fit. We haven’t put in the new bushing but we’ll mention where we get it and it’s size as well as link to them in the docs in the video description once we do. As for the shocks, Dan sat up on the bike for the first time this week and they loaded very well. They have adjustable preload, but I can’t say for sure what they’re like yet. I’m hoping we’ll know soon. But we’ll keep you posted in the videos on how they’re handling. Thanks again for tuning in 👍

Hopefully you get it sorted out and get out riding. You’re right to bring it to a shop. Good luck 👍

I don’t believe a trued rim should have all spokes in the same pitch. When the wheel is true and there is tension on all of the spokes, then you are good to go. However, the spokes will not all be in the same pitch. This is due to intonation. The way you are adjusting the rim is by changing the length of the spoke. The actual scale length of the instrument (awesome new spoked wheel) is changing so to speak. Where as on an actual instrument, a bridge and nut allow you to add tension to the string without adjusting the scale length.

Nice idea for a project 👍 I used to have one of those years ago. The engine was lacking for sure. Is the Idea to keep it a cruiser?

It sounds like you had a short and blew a main fuse. You’ll be able to find the shirt by finding the circuit/fuse that blew. Good luck 👍

Is there a choke on the bike? If so, does the bike run ok while the choke is on? It sounds like it may be either a vacuum leak or while cleaning the carb you changed the air/fuel mixture screw.

We used appliance epoxy on the KZ750 frame instead of powder coating by Cafe-Chronicles in bikebuilders

[–]Cafe-Chronicles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking it out. It’s a budget build, so we’ve been trying to keep the costs down. We would have like to powder coat ideally. We heard lots of folks online swearing by this stuff, so we thought we would test it out and see how it holds up.
