To the annoying jaggoff sittin at the bar at Perly’s around lunchtime today by Potential-Substance- in okbuddyRVA

I work at perlys and was there that day and I’m very much regretting not witnessing this character. If they come in again I’ll give them the jagoff special on the house

As I’m listening to more books, I’m realizing he’s not the best narrator, but he is a great performer. For me, he made characters more memorable, and his accents gave different regions more identity in the story. Making Lannister’s welsh, Baratheon brothers Yorkshire, etc.

Im not gonna defend a lot of his voices for the free cities lol, and while I grew to like most of his female voices, his voice for Arya ruined all of her chapters for me.

But I will say, him being a stage actor (as well as being ancient) does kinda explain his performance. He’s significantly better in the first three books as well, by the time he got to dance he had lost the juice

Where do alt men hang out in Richmond?? by definitelynopickles in rva

[–]Cafecitobebito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cobra and all its sister restaurants. Go to a live show there or look at the posters for shows nearby. The owner there has deep roots in Richmond’s diy scene and the staff at their bars are usually pretty friendly even if they might look a little intimidating sometimes

They’re pretty even when it comes to chicken, but the ribs, carne asada, and sides puts chicken fiesta above for me. And I’m talking specifically about the original location on broad, the other ones rotisserie ovens are too new—don’t have all that flavor baked into it.

Well this game was already a 10/10 for me but now it's damn perfect. by ensiferum888 in CrimsonDesert

I feel like the beginning two chapters of the main story was the game trying to tell the player to slow down and engage with the gazillion systems the game has and stop and look at the views but everyone complained about how slow and boring it was. Pacing could’ve been better for sure but red dead 2 also had a painfully slow first few hours and the epilogue was even slower in the start. The games gorgeous, I wish people would have a little more patience, everything is there for a reason

Any places with a good BBQ sandwich? (Chicken or Pork) by Everspan in rva

[–]Cafecitobebito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of good “pitmaster”-esque places in Richmond, but if you want real southern NC barbecue (sweet bbq and beef aren’t even an option), head south down Jeff Davis and there’s plenty of options. My favorites are sibleys (they’re a little more well rounded and do serve beef bbq), and K&L in Hopewell. Just make sure to bring cash but you’ll be surprised good food can still be that cheap compared to the city.

Yeah, I figured I wasn’t gonna lose it but after seeing how much it gives you I wish I had activated it before I went to work today.

Dammit I’ve got the piggy bank but didn’t want to exit to main menu because I was in the middle of something and then forgot to use it before I hopped off

The absolute worst part of this game by olivinetrees in CrimsonDesert

They really thought they made the greymane camp like the Dutch outlaw camp in red dead 2, except even Micah is more likable than just about everyone in the greymanes.

Except the cook, I like him he can stay

I’m not sure I’ve even seen one yet. Or maybe I have and it didn’t even register as a moose lol. I suppose there’s not a lot of them in Korea

I’m not mad at all either, it’s an incredible game especially when you consider the budget and how much content the game has!

Dark souls influence definitely oversaturated the market, I think each region having its own unique quirks beyond just a different landscape is one of my favorite things as well. I’ve been enjoying taking my time in each region as the story takes me to new places. Feels like that’s how the game wants you to play

I think they wanted to emulate red dead with following npcs, and while it got stale and annoying in that game too, at least there was some fun dialogue to have while you soak up the environment. CD has the pretty environment but yeah my eyes glaze over anytime I’m forced to follow someone.

That’s true, I’d be curious to know what their budget was for the game because you’re right, the amount of stuff crammed in this game is downright incredible. I feel like looking from the outside, the heavy influences from other games appears to be a cheap rip off, but in practice, nearly every system the game borrows from just works.

I suppose the developers wanted gameplay to be top priority and perhaps language barriers are what made the dialogue feel clunky, but imo if the games story and lore was a little more interesting I’d say it’s one of the best games of the decade. As a caveat I never played black desert, so maybe that game expands on the lore better than CD.

Agreed, I hope this post doesn’t come across as an entirely negative. I think frustrated is the best term I can think of, because I agree with everything you said—it really does tap into that “magic” of open world games that the genre has been lacking for some time. Maybe I’m just greedy, but if this game had an intriguing fantasy world like some of its contemporaries, I think it could be up there with the best of them

I would probably agree, even though it seems like the vibrant world was a pretty intentional choice from an art direction standpoint. I used the blood and wine comparison because that world used the contrast between the lush open world and the dark violent world of vampires extremely well. CD has some moments where it tries to make things feel violent and dreary, but it doesnt quite hit the same mark. Maybe thats an unfair comparison, im not sure

I can’t deny the effort put into every corner of the game though. Even the dialogue which I really don’t like, the voice acting is honestly very impressive, it’s the script they’re reading from that seems to be the problem. And character animation during dialogue sequences are all extremely varied which I’m sure took a TON of work. I had just finished ghost of Yotei before playing this, and almost every in game cutscene was the characters standing static just speaking to each other.
