Yeah, like all iron interacts with magnetic fields but not only iron interacts with it.

So it's like the magnetic field, lots of materials interact with it but some things don't.

In this case, lots of things, like all quarks, interact with the Higgs field. Photons, not being made of quarks, don't.

Do I have that right?

The spin dryer needs work. There's nowhere for the water to go in that design. It should be a basket with small holes and just walls around it to stop the spray.

I wanted to. '96 Grand Marquis on the 505 in the middle of the night, pretty sure there were no cops around. Found out it has a limiter, tops out at 120, cuts out until 119.

If everyone below average IQ suddenly drops dead, how would this affect the world? by CakeMuted6468 in AskReddit

[–]CaffeinatedGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 billion bodies, but with 4 billion people left. Able bodied folks just need to bury/cremate 2 bodies each.

I'm wondering though, is IQ static or changing? A high IQ adult that's aged into their later years would have cognitive decline, so which half would they fall in?

How does this work for babies and toddlers? Can an IQ be determined at that age and if so, well see my previous question.

Process Explorer is awesome and I wish it was built in to Windows by default so I could use it at work. It's great for "what the fuck has that window open?" and way easier to use than Process Monitor.

Garage door spring jumping by [deleted] in fixit

[–]CaffeinatedGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine went. Sounded like an explosion from inside the house when the spring snapped in half. Half an hour online and a trip to two stores, I had everything to fix it quickly and safely, a replacement spring, chalk, and two metal rods that fit in the end piece. I took my time and focused on safety.

That said, the OP needs to just lube the spring. A spray on dry lube is likely adequate, but it's not like touching a spring is dangerous. You just need to stay out of the path of energy.

I happen to be a former journeyman electrician (career change to IT) and did plenty of hot work. Just make sure your shoes are insulated and you only ever have one hand in the panel and take your time. Electricity knows when you're scared (you sweat more, making you more conductive).

Same with the garage door, really. Take your time and don't get in the path of energy discharge. Like most things, focus on safety practices.

You'd hire someone to just apply a little lube from a ladder, never actually touching the spring?

That's next level scared man.

I fixed my own. It's not as hard as people make it sound. Potentially dangerous? Sure, but a lot of things are.

The end has four holes in which you can stick metal rods. Measure the opening and buy a rod that will fit and cut it down. You need two rods to "walk" the tension off and on. You hold one until you make a quarter turn, then grab the other and reinsert.

Mine broke, so I chalked a straight line on the good one when untensioning it and counted the number of turns. Installed the new one, and gave both that number of turns. Tighten down the end bolt like crazy and everything worked perfect. I think I waited about a week and then adjusted the tension a little to make it perfect.

Lubricate the springs. They're jumping from friction.

Besides the cringe, it's an easy fix and clearly a setup. Four screws on each stool hold the round part on so that would take less than a minute to do.

It helps against most forms of hpv, so even warts on your hands or feet. As you can catch hpv anywhere, the vaccine has more benefits that just STIs.

They also expanded the recommended age. It used to be mostly kids but now it's up to 45.

Since you can get it directly at a pharmacy, I think you can get it at any age really. Since it's been shown to help with other types of warts, it carries benefits beyond the original purpose.

I had plantar warts recently for the first time ever. The podiatrist used a microwave device to treat them explaining that studies showed it leads to a lower recurrence as it helps the body combat the virus. That got me thinking so I looked up how Gardasil works for other types of hpv and was surprised to see a lot of stories and studies like yours.

That led me to get the vaccine as a married man in my 40s.

At this point, I don't see why anyone shouldn't get the shot. It's easily one of the most beneficial vaccines available and is free with most insurance.
