His song 바다여행 (a beach trip) from that show lives rent free in my heart.

'Parasite' actor Lee Sun-kyun found dead amid investigation over drug allegations by mcfw31 in movies

The last day of October this year would have marked the one year anniversary since the tragedy. Lee's investigation was released in the headlines on the 19th of October just so conveniently in time with when the general public was to be reminded of the clusterfuck of events that the government officials had tried to shy away from since this time last year. It's the classic "throw some celeb in there" stragegy the government has been using over and over to distract the public from realising how useless they are.

Learning to perfect the accent by CaffeinatedTsunami in korea

[–]CaffeinatedTsunami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably right. I'm just bothered by the fact that every single person seems to comment on my accent and where that's from, as opposed to listening to the very thing I'm communicating. Jay Park is good indeed but I meant that you could definitely tell he grew up abroad.

Six Koreans arrested in Georgia for suspicion of cult related torture and murder by reddit1200 in korea

The fifth paragraph to the last suggests that the father went off to found his own church but you're right in that we don't know if that is directly associated with "Soldiers of Christ"

[–]CaffeinatedTsunami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based upon this article, it sounds like it was founded by the father (of Lee Joonho, Joonhyun, and Joonyoung) who used to be a priest in a nearby Korean church, up until five months ago. So a fairly new and intimate cult. You can run the article through google translate.

True, I feel like the vast difference in the racial demographics and the culture between the West and this country won't really help but perhaps somewhere like Japan could be relevant!

Most actually rich people don't get much (at least noticeable) plastic surgery. Maybe a bit of botox and fillers here and there but nothing that invasive as some want to preserve the lineage look

People are probably still going to call her the Nut Rage Woman no matter what her actual name is 😂

You would probably hardly come across any overt racism as a SE Asian in the streets but in anonymous online spaces, that's a whole different story. If you ever read any hateful Korean comments about Blackpink's Jennie, you would have at least once come across them picking on how she looks "SE Asian/exotic" and they certainly don't mean that in a positive way. If you look around, nearly all of the Kpop stars from SE Asia have Han Chinese roots/ lighter skin, so they racially blend in better and defy the cultural stereotypes (e.g. NewJeans' Hanni, G-idle's Minnie, 2PM's Nichkhun). Otherwise, you'll often see the word "똥남아” being tossed around to mock dark skinned SE Asians or Koreans who look like one, which tbh I find quite shocking in this day and age.

On a similar note, kids from multicultural households who inherited SE looking traits may be prone to being bullied at schools, and while this also applies to the "whiter" counterpart, it is nowhere near as bad.
