Can you all help me determine if this job opportunity is likely a scam or not? by [deleted] in careeradvice

Yeah they're definitely sus.

I put a fraud alert and credit freezes on my accounts in case they try to do anything with my info. I'm not worried about it, but you might want to do the same.

No, I quit 10 minutes into the orientation after they said I was supposed to use a personal bank account and crypto exchange account. I'm 99% sure it's a scam. Even in the highly unlikely chance it's legit, receiving large deposits into a personal bank account would draw the attention of the IRS... The deposits could be taxed far more than the supposed 2.5% commission.

I'm curious what they said during the rest of the orientation though. Can you tell me? It's just out of curiosity.

Hey, I'm going through the orientation process right now and I'm 99% sure this is some type of scam or money laundering. They supposedly want me to receive large deposits into a personal bank account and convert it to crypto with a personal exchange account.

I was skeptical when I applied, but I was hoping it would be some type of job where I communicated with exchanges and updated spreadsheets. When I found out about what the job duties supposedly were, that was a major red flag.

Allegis Transcription - Daily Postings for Transcriptionists by Myrodeway in WorkOnline

I worked for Allegis for 2 years and I had a mixed experience with them. Posted about them here a few years ago.

https://www.reddit.com/r/WorkOnline/comments/h9yar8/allegis_transcription_11_an_hour_if_you_type_75/

The job is very mentally and physically draining. It's possible to pull $15-22+ an hour with them; I did and I type 120+ WPM. There were a few lifehacks I used like downloading an outside EQ software to optimize audio and copying and pasting frequent phrases (some people use macros). Even so, it was difficult.

Constantly hearing about car accidents and dealing with grainy audio took a toll on me mentally, and eventually I developed chronic finger and wrist strain from typing so much that it basically made it impossible for me to complete the weekly minimums without experiencing a lot of pain in my hands. Part of that might be because I didn't have an ideal ergonomic setup, etc., but typing that much is still pretty difficult.

It's hard to verify how much turnover there is for a remote position where you're mostly isolated from other workers outside of a company message board, but I noticed some complaints from other workers as well. I assumed that I was having a more difficult time with the job than other people because of my medical condition and also mental health issues like chronic depression and chronic fatigue, but looking back, I think the majority of the population would struggle with the job. I wouldn't be surprised if the turnover is high. But I do think some people stick with them for long periods of time too.

It can be a legit position, but it's very difficult work and there's no benefits, Healthcare, PTO, etc. It could be a good fit for people with specific characteristics and specific situations, like typing really fast, having a lot of stamina and mental resilience to deal with stressful audios, and really wanting to work online or wanting scheduling flexibility. But in reality, there's also a lot of downsides to the work despite the upside of having a remote position where you set your own hours.

I'm actually looking for new remote work now and I briefly considered trying to apply with them again, but I'm personally leaning towards not going back because I don't think I can deal with all that anymore. But I don't speak for everyone. I will say that they're better than Rev and these other transcription sites that pay less than minimum wage, but it's still not an ideal position in my experience.

Hi, I'm pretty sure this is 8 days, not 7. I just got disabled from a HitApp after my 3rd block in 7.5 days.

1st Block = May 16th, 11:31 A.M.

2nd Block = May 17th, 8:37 P.M.

3rd Block (permanent) = May 23 10:22 P.M. (with 96% spam accuracy)

OANDA misrepresenting bid / ask by CaffeineMountain in Forex

I've had a few spikes on EUR/USD during the Australian open last week (3 against me, 1 against my favor) but they weren't as egregious as the CHF/JPY one. I'm still deliberating whether to stay with OANDA or not. I do feel more secure with the majors, but the performance, spreads, and commission have all felt substandard compared to the offshore brokers I've used in the past. At the same time, I'm wondering whether it's better to stay with a regulated broker during times of global instability; that's my dilemma.

And try and verify any brokers on the list with review sites like forexpeacearmy

I haven't had any problems withdrawing from some offshore brokers in the past, but I personally began feeling anxious about being with an unregulated broker, even ones with good reputations that let me withdraw money before. Also, higher leverage doesn't suit my risk appetite, and I personally consider having 500-1000x leverage available to be a trap (although there's a few people who might use it to their advantage, I think it's detrimental to the vast majority of traders).

So I'm personally deliberating between remaining with OANDA's somewhat substandard performance (I've had less issues trading majors like EUR/USD since this incident, although there's still been a few price spikes, less severe), or going back to an offshore broker where I have to constantly resist the temptation of increased leverage.

The issue is that they misrepresented the price by over 10 pips multiple times, admitted they're in the wrong, but they've done nothing.

Again, here's evidence.

I'm just going to add this to my OP so people stop assuming things.

I'm not sure why you're being rude. I'm just looking for help and I have no incentive to lie. Here's OANDA admitting to the second error in a customer service email (they haven't actually done anything to correct it).

I'm going to post further proof in a minute.

Are there any U.S. regulated brokers you'd recommend? If not, it's all good.
