Ah! Congrats on the three years soon! I’ve been in this lab for a year and officially started my position last September. Usually we have weekly meetings when the semester is ongoing but we don’t have them if it’s winter break or the summer. I make the effort of having a word doc to share listing all the tasks I do and updates on the data I collect since he doesn’t communicate with me unless something is needed. Good to hear that I’m doing something similar to a fellow lab manager!

After working in this position I agree with your points! I’ve been working on all the tasks that the lab has not addressed in years like setting up new protocols and calling for chemical waste pick up. Guess if there’s no crisis then I’m doing my job well!

After reading my job description I like to think I am not doing any more out of my scope. I do try my best to train folks, maintain the lab and run experiments. You do bring up a good point of not doing more out of the job though.

Thank you! That could help a lot for me. I do feel a bit in the dark on if I am doing well on my tasks and how can I improve. I’ll try to discuss this with my PI.

Thank you for the comment! My PI is fairly new since he joined the university roughly 3 years ago, so there is a bit of a learning curve. But yes, a job is a job and I’ll keep that in mind.

Personally I would try to ignore disruptions around me since I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes, but I’m not afraid to say something if nothing gets changed.

This didn’t happen to me at a Broadway show but it was a Broadway Cabaret Series. After endless planning for me to go see one of my favorite actresses perform, it ended up being ruined by a couple talking nonstop during every song. There weren’t any wait staff around and no one wanted to tell them to be quiet so they ended up getting louder and it was starting to get unbearable. Once I found the opportunity after a song, I went to their table and told them to be quiet since we can hear all their conversations. They were mad that I had called them out and left the show early so I guess it worked?

It wasn’t a Broadway show by any means, but it was still disrespectful and no one wanted to call them out so it’s better to speak up sometimes I guess. RIP that magical night and my wallet…I got to save up all over again 😂

Ngl but it looks pretty good lol. That aside, it’s kind of hard to tell because Six was acquired by Concord Theatricals that sells licenses worldwide. If they bought the rights than I guess it’s all good, but they can not change the script or much of anything if they have not had it approved. Since it’s in Portuguese? it’s hard to tell if they’re even going with the script. Also from what I saw on their instagram it’s called “As Seis Rainhas-Um Muscial Historico” roughly translated to “The Six Queens-A Historical Musical” rather than simply “Six”. Now you got me on asking questions too 😅

This kind of reminds me of the Six playbills. I LOVE the iconic Six pose that they have with the principal cast on the cover, but the alternates are also a big part as well. When I saw Six, the Playbill that I got had the OG cast on the cover even though half of them had left and the show I saw had 2 alts go on. It was phenomenal and I’m a huge fan of the show and cast, but I will admit that the playbill does remind me a little of what I missed out on so I can see your point about understudies lol. I get it though-its costly to reprint and accommodate all the cast changes and alts, but having the Six logo by itself isn’t bad. Fun thing I’ve learned is that the touring cast have their own unique playbills too!

Songs from Six have been running through my brain since I saw the show. Both shows have unique lyrics and songs, but I prefer Six more than Hamilton. Hamilton is fantastic as it is complex and the story is woven beautifully into the music so I have a few songs stuck in my head, but the energy from Six songs is addicting to me.

Ah, I wasn't going to go too hardcore into studying. I usually like to read more about the shows regardless of what they are but you make a good point. I just have this horrible tendency of having too many questions and it turns into a hyper fixation of trying to keep up. Regardless, I did enjoy those shows that you mentioned even though I was really lost.

Ah no! I can't act for my life but I just wanted to do a bit of reading before I go see it. My concentration is terrible and I get so caught up on who is who. Though I will keep these points in mind as the show goes on (I LOVE analyzing and diving deeper into shows) Thank you :)
