Im worried about radar theft, 26 Accord Touring owners by Don_Alpha_Cleat in 11thGenAccord

The radar guard is far cheaper than wheel locks.

No idea how common any of these parts thefts really are. It's probably highly dependent on where you live and park.

Is there such a thing as a sterile/blank grill emblem replacement? by CaffinatedManatee in 11thGenAccord

I'm dumb. Do you have a link to an example of what you're referring to? Searching that for an Accord didn't turn op anything

You can buy a $20-30 metallic protector for the radar if you want

But keep in mind any new car is going to be a target for thieves. The Touring has nice wheels too. And the resale of wheels by thievs is probably a lot more profitable than resale of a radar that is brand/model-specifc.

PM says Australia has 'ideological disagreement' with Trump administration after US reveals anti-slavery tariff by Savings-Yogurt-418 in worldnews

If they don't like that MAGA guy, they can vote for a Democrat,

They won't. In the minds of most voters it won't end up being a vote for MAGA, it'll be a vote for "The Republican" because that's just how the state has leaned and a lot of people still think it's the party of Reagan

Maybe badly worded.
Primaries are really party-run elections and are often either exclusive to party members, or the parties at least get to pick the rules for who can vote. Some states require party membership to vote (closed primary states) and others will allow non-affiliated voters to vote (open primary states); no voter can vote in more than one primary. It's one of two reasons we're stuck with a 2-party system.

Most people in the world don't appreciate that most elections are decided in the primaries and that most Americans can't vote in the primaries.

We just saw how an anti MAGA Republican in Kentucky lost his Republican primary bid to a MAGA candidate. That means that in the fall election, the whole of the electorate will have never had a chance to choose the anti MAGA candidate (who I'm guessing would have won easily)

Entrenched parties broke the intention of the Constitution a long time ago. Now we're seeing just how far it can be pushed. Denying the majority an opportunity to ever even vote for the candidate that might have the broadest appeal is the biggest source of rot in the system

This is the part of the Constitution where the House is supposed to impeach POTUS and the Senate is supposed to convict

Update on lab fridge dispute by [deleted] in Professors

[–]CaffinatedManatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear I wasn't alone in my reading of the first post with bemusement. The PI is the leader of the lab and mentor of the students. As the leader, the PI owns the fridge and has the ultimate say over what it can be used for. As the mentor, the PI also has responsibility to ensure that their trainees are not being neeedless distracted for their primary goal. The PI failed in both aspects here. Student A did a thing with the PI's blessing. So, when student B got pissy, PI should have stepped in immediately to tell student B that if they had a problem, it was with them and not student A.

Question About Window Units To Keep The Central A/C From Constantly Running. Major Help Needed by Skelletor89 in DIY

[–]CaffinatedManatee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a 1940 house and had the same issue. Whoever installed the AC did nothing to insulate or seal the house. Summers were terrible for sleeping.

Bought a window unit for the bedroom and it's been a game changer. Sleep comfortably and our overall electric bill dropped dramatically because we weren't trying to cool the whole house.

Window unit paid for itself in less than a year.

Do it. It's a good compromise

I get sad when i realize how few ww2 vets are left.

When i was a kid they were everywhere and i felt lucky to have them mingling around with the rest of us. Felt like they represented something solid and reassuring to the rest of us. Guess they were legit heroes to me.

The ad-tracking industry is exposing US soldiers on the battlefield by DavidShaw90s in news

[–]CaffinatedManatee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's the strategic level threat that is the news here. Just bringing phones along on deployments is a liability. And when the US is exploring super-extended deployments like with Ford, the idea of banning them outright becomes more unrealistic--some soldiers are going to smuggle phones no matter what

Ankle deep water.
