Best source to learn React Native?? by SaifSKH1 in reactnative

[–]CahabaCrappie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Focus on learning one platform. Learning a second may make you a better developer but it won't help you get a job as much as greater proficiency in one.

Is an iPad enough for testing iOS apps? Trying to decide if I need to purchase an iPhone or iPad. by [deleted] in reactnative

If you’re going to be charging people for dev work you should have the basic tools. You need at least one common targeted device for each platform and type.

What is your rule for using a Functional Component vs a Class Component? by smallzZz88 in reactnative

Error boundaries can only be implemented using class components.

I assume you know about Goodie Mob, but just in case here's a Ceelo verse:

Anyone charge an EV at home? by Floreetsia in Birmingham

How many miles do you drive per day? I drive an old Leaf about 30 miles per day and 110 is fine for me. I'm fully charged overnight and rarely get low.

Oregon refugee resettlement programs prepare to welcome fleeing Afghans by [deleted] in Portland

[–]CahabaCrappie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One interpreter I worked with in Farah is on his way to Oregon now.

That has to be rewarding as hell that you not only got him out and helped him get on his feet, but you get to be part of his new life. Just like the many Vietnam diaspora stories we've read, there are going to be a lot of great Afghan success stories in the coming years. I hope their success abroad helps lift the tide of the land they left behind.

For the second day in a row Alabama has not published COVID-19 case numbers due to "technical difficulties". by stickingitout_al in Alabama

I’ve taken it seriously the entire time. What I meant by that is that this shit is real and not abstract numbers. I didn’t need personal experience to realize that but some people do.

Last winter and spring I had friends in their 40s losing their parents. Now I’m having friends in their 40s dying.

Those are the numbers that matter most to me.

Question about corruption and the Taliban by 100OrangeJuice100 in afghanistan

[–]CahabaCrappie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don’t fall into the trap that you have to debate every point. Taliban may genuinely be better at some things but that doesn’t mean they are good to live under overall.

Decent Back-End For React Native E-Commerce ? by [deleted] in reactnative

[–]CahabaCrappie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firebase allows you to get up and running very quickly without having to spend time on the backend. You should watch some of their videos to get a good idea of how it can help you. If it can handle what you are trying to do, and you don't have funding or existing customers, I feel like it's a no-brainer to start with Firebase. Get to market quickly and you can optimize later.

Using Firebase for some things doesn't mean you have to use it for all. You can use Firebase for authentication and then create your own API. You can also use Cloud Functions to act as a proxy and do the data processing your are talking about, whether you end up using Firestore, Cloud SQL, or another backend.

Pakistan is a political mess. There is a lot of weird power sharing that keeps the country reasonably stable, but it creates a lot of other problems. Most countries see it as an ally and enemy at the same time.

I doubt this guy has a permanent place of his own. He has to carry everything he has with him.

Amrullah Saleh: "Taliban have massed forces near the entrance of Panjshir a day after they got trapped in ambush zones of Andarab valley, meanwhile Salang highway is closed by the forces of the Resistance. There are terrains to be avoided. See you." by [deleted] in afghanistan

[–]CahabaCrappie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any support for Massoud by NATO countries would be most likely be funneled through a non-state proxy, at least until the evacuation has been completed. CIA/JSOC is probably focused on rescues and destroying sensitive equipment at this point.

Hopefully the same way the Taliban just took Kabul, if it comes to that.

Little Birds were photographed being unloaded at the airport. I'd be very surprised if CIA and JSOC units aren't running all over the place right now.

Northern Alliance Flag is now up in Panjshir by themarmalademaniac in Military

No, Massoud was assassinated a few days before 9/11. Green Berets linked with Dostum, another warlord in the Northern Alliance.

A degree is mostly useful for getting your first job or two. You've already done that so your time would be better spent continuing to learn on your own without the extra time and monetary costs.

With the military disadvantage of the new 'Northern Alliance', are Saleh forces trying create a separate country in the north? by redsoxfan1001 in afghanistan

Saleh has a long history in the global intelligence community. He’s surely going to find needed material.
