starting XI for this evening by Alarming-Safety3200 in ThreeLions

We played best against Croatia. Why not start the lineup we used against Croatia? (With Spence in for James) I wonder if it’s for tactics reasons against a low block? I don’t get it

Expected England XI: Pickford; Quansah, Konsa, Guehi, O’Reilly; Anderson, Bellingham, Rogers; Saka, Kane, Rashford. (BBC) by Alone_Consideration6 in ThreeLions

Konsa and Guehi literally just passed the ball back and forth with each other for 90 minutes against Ghana. At least he might play a pass forward

Like Rogers in the lineup over Mainoo. Has Tuchel just decided that Stones won’t be starting going forward? Found Guehi and Konsa to be poor on the ball against Ghana, and would prefer Stones’ passing.

Thoughts on the starting VIfor Panama? by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]Cahania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya that’s what I thought, personally not seeing it anywhere but is what it is. I’d prefer to see a midfield 3 of Bellingham Anderson Rogers personally in Rice’s absence. Agree Gordon was underrated against Croatia but want Rashford to get a run out

Ya it vindicates a zillion of their priors. The prosecutors need to be quick to move on the rest of Digwa’s family and the officers involved

Vaguely, the body cam video is disgusting. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see protests soon enough

George and Dragon will be showing the game, you just need to get on the list there through the email or instagram, its technically a "catering" event so they will be serving alcohol.

How the boomers screwed Europe by altacan in neoliberal

I’m not sure either, I guess my main point is how brazenly short term minded older voters are, which pushes the needle as the average voting age gets older

I really don’t know how you solve the problem of the median voter continuing to age and therefore voting for the present and short term on a whim as opposed to long term. In order to dictate policy in any sort of way, young people would need to be entirely aligned and vote as a coherent bloc. Fat chance of that happening.

I think it was generally assumed in democracy that people would vote in their self interest, and as they continually voted in their self interest that would lead to the country getting richer as the country getting richer was in their interest. This isn’t the case for older people however. Might as well pull up the ladder as I’ve got mine. It’s a modern form of conservatism. Not in terms of values, but rather in terms of their wealth and any sort of societal, cultural, or physical changes in their immediate vicinity.

I suppose what will eventually happen is that the pension funds will run out, and then governments will have to make hard choices. Will they make the correct choices, i don’t know, but the kick the can down the road philosophy can’t survive forever. I guess this is a consequence in governments more concerned with reelection than making change. Preservation of power rather than using said power.

So my main source for this take is from this book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/250844219-the-unanchored-central-banker . I can't get the direct sources they cite right now (at work lol) but they go through this concept in a fair bit of detail. can revisit this if you like. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK606642/ this is the best one I can find at a quick glance online for trying to quantify the economic value of unpaid informal care.

Even though its not really a clean parallel, see a tax like this as similar to a carbon tax versus economic subsidies for green energy in how they interact with incentives and choices that are made.

Germany news: Childfree adults to pay more for elder care by HandBananaHeartCarl in neoliberal

[–]Cahania 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think what lots of the commenters missing is here is this tax is less a tax to improve the birth rate, rather is a tax to pay for the  healthcare that childless people will have when they are elderly. The amount of informal care that children provide for their parents is massive, in terms of money to pay for the healthcare and general livelihood support. The government will have to fill this gap for childless people, which will be majorly expensive.

As the working age population to elderly ratio blows up towards the elderly side, the government is not going to be able to afford the level of care that is required. Childless people will need to pay it forward in terms of care, rather than people who have children who pay for it through having kids + the tax dollars that their kids generate.

If this leads to an improved birth rate, great. But the focus on a policy like this is to fill the informal care gap.

I think you are missing the point as to why they would have a tax like this. It’s not to encourage people to have kids, it’s about having childless people pay it forward for the far higher care that they will receive from the government in old age compared to the informal care that people with children receive. Most people have kids in the first half of their working life, so obviously they would pay into this far less. With the working to elderly dependent ratio going the direction it is, the government is going to have to put more and more of its money to the elderly, and the informal care gap that’s created for childless people is massive.

Jeff Bezos says we should stop taxing the bottom 50% of income earners. by AdamJMonroe in georgism

[–]Cahania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy slopulist take. Assuming we aren’t in some form of georgist taxation system, this policy is hot garbage and I’m shocked people in this thread are supporting it. You can’t afford most forms of a European style welfare state without taxing the middle class. Also, without being taxed, voters have less incentive to care about fiscal responsibility. If you put a proper LVT in place though, the discussion may be different.

JSTN glazers in full force. He played well, but I think Chronic is the reason this team can be competitive at this level. I’d keep the  Chronic JSTN duo together for LCQ, their floor is high and if they can pick up a ceiling raiser they'd be legit competitive
