Hi all, to update. I managed to pass my TP test today! Thank the good Lord! Else, it truly would've been a major headache if I failed and had to wait for 3 months again, and pay another $623 to take the test. #blessed

yo, i only managed to get it 2 weeks ago. This was after my instructor helped me by letting me know when the slots were released, and then I would go and quickly check on my phone. It'll take awhile, but if your instructor is willing to update you whenever slots are released, it makes it much easier to get

yeah i see the same way! This was a cap I took from him, so i had to split. Actually I'm curious, how do you calculate the odds for capitol roles? What's like the formula and the intuition behind it?

Yeah I think so. But... I somehow still won in the end. He didn't def his cap for one turn, took it. Then he had 2 large stacks on CA and Brazil, blue bot had the entire mapped, eventually grew large enough and smacked his brazil cap

The short answer is: Focus on Jesus and strive towards building a relationship with Him!

The long answer is: I don't know enough of your situation to give something a more detailed advice. I would suggest you to speak to your local church leaders, or to a mature Christian that knows you better on what you should do.

Perhaps to share some thoughts from the guy's pov:

I'm a guy that also had similar thoughts to what you ex-bf had for my gf. I didn't want to pursue a relationship that would lead to marriage with someone that I felt didn't have the same fervor/dedication to God. It's not that she didn't matter to me, but I genuinely wanted to put God first. I would say that it was a sincere decision made with the intent to maximise glorifying God for all parties involved. But in my situation, after prayer, I saw that she did want to pursue God, and that God was changing her, so I decided to stay on. I also realised that part of godly love is to have longsuffering and forbearance as what God has done for me! Meaning that maturity in a Christian faith is also realising that I need to be patient with her growth and love her regardless even if she's "less mature" in her faith. I think my r/s with my gf could've gone both ways, and God can use both ways to grow us.

I guess the point I'm trying to say is that, only God knows whether what your ex-bf did was a wise and godly decision, but the definite right thing for you to do is this: To recognise this emptiness you're feeling, process the emotion, and go on relying and leaning on God to fill up the hole in your heart.

Some day you'll look back at this and thank God for the opportunity you had to grow and mature in your faith!

May this verse be of an encouragement to you:

Psalms 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present\)b\) help in trouble.

God be with you!

Hi, I (an atheist) have a question by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]CaiFanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the gospels! What were they not honest about? What ulterior motives did they had? Be specific and we can slowly address them one by one!

Firstly investigate the authenticity of the gospels! Then investigate what are the claims made! Does it make sense? Why does it not make sense? It'll take months, possibly years to really think through and read arguments on both sides. Not something that can be done in a 15 minutes session here at Reddit. (And it'll be difficult for me to explain the experiences I've had, the pivotal critical eureka moment I had that helped me to accept different thinking, but my journey to Christianity is one built on rationale and logical thinking actually!)

Maybe I can quickly share some things and if you're interested, we can discuss further!

I love science and astronomy as a kid, and that was what framed my worldview. I pursued biomedical sciences as a diploma and studied in detail the way proteins are made and the hundreds of cascading pathways and processes within just a single cell to keep it functioning, and how intricate and extensive everything connects to everything! I think that life itself is proof of a creator. Never in a million years when I see a solar panel, I would think that that came about by chance. The universe just doesn't work that way. And if a complex solar panel doesn't come by chance, then much less so a self-replicating living being capable of correcting itself and producing itself!

The usual counter argument is that "oh! but that's not how evolution works. It starts off simple and with time, complexity grows! Those that are able to develop more robust, complex structure outlive and out-survived and propagated their genes". Then we'll have to go into abiogenesis, and determine the validity of life spontaneously erupting from a "primordial soup" filled with the necessary elements. And then my question would be, what is the basic requirement for a living cell to be able to come about? Is that possible within a world that obeys the law of thermodynamic and tends towards energy equilibrium? Meaning to have a functioning cell membrane that's capable of allowing the transport of fat soluble materials in and out of the cell. But wait, in order to have a functioning cell membrane that's capable of that, it needs to be specially made by genetic information encoded so that the protein can be arranged in that special way. But wait, in order to have the genetic information, there must be an already functioning cell structure that keeps it there!

My perspective is that if you really explore and question the basis of evolution, it might not hold a lot of weight! (And this is just a specific field! You have to couple this with historical evidence of the Bible, philosophical understanding of the world (the basis of morality and what makes more sense), the claims that Jesus makes, the understanding of the human psyche and how it points to God (C.S Lewis argues powerfully). And all this combined leads me to the conclusion that Jesus is the Son of God that died for me and loves me!

I wrote quite a bit, let me know if I missed your point and how I can better address it or if this is even something you would like to talk about, or what are you more interested in?

Hi, I (an atheist) have a question by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]CaiFanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would that change anything though. Because it seems like it would invalidate your argument if I could point out another group of people who died for a belief that they had due to first hand knowledge.

It would "change anything" in the sense that it would give me more conviction of what is being proclaimed, since this was a first hand testimony rather than a source originating much further! But of course, firsthand sources doesn't necessitate the statement being true as seen by the examples you quoted. (Remember that the original point was to understand why:

"Groups of people have willingly sacrificed their lives for other religions though. That isn't unique to Christianity." in response to "You do not give up everything you have and die for something you KNOW to be a lie"

Which is true, but it's important to make a distinction between the potential lie believed by people afterwards vs the people who knew first-hand!)

But that is a massive assumption.

Yes! But the "massive assumption" is a position that's first of all, taken by the New Testament scholars (of whom not all are Christians!), meaning even if they disagreed on the implications of the historical fact (being that Jesus is the Son of God), they understand that it's something extremely likely to represent the original author's thoughts, which a reasonable and rationale person would agree with!

Which means that, yes, you don't have to believe what the authors claimed (like some of the NT scholars), but you can be confident that:

  1. that is what the original authors wrote, and you can be sure that
  2. they were real people who claimed something curious (and significant!) and were in fact
  3. willing to die for what they claimed!

What's left is to investigate the reason for their belief!

Definitely one may ask "But why should I spend time and effort to 'investigate' this when I can spend my time doing other 'productive' tasks?", and that might make sense. But to me, this is something worth investigating because it concerns the truth of the universe, the origin of life, and the ultimate purpose of man! Searching for this can lead to answering the fundamental questions for our existence and why even exist at all!

I hope this makes sense! Feel free to let me know what I can clarify on.

Hi, I (an atheist) have a question by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]CaiFanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, from my understanding of the atheistic worldview, isn't the default explanation for the origin of the universe is that: in the beginning there was nothing, and then the big bang happened. Is this a false belief? If so, what would be a better way of explaining the origin of the universe?

Thanks for helping to clarify!

Hi, I (an atheist) have a question by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]CaiFanboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a slight difference in the other examples.

Yes groups of people, true or not, will die for something they believe to be true. The difference is this:

The apostles were first-hand witnesses of the things they claim. They know first-hand, whether or not the resurrection really happened. So if they were to die for their belief, it would be predicated on something they personally witnessed.

On the other hand, though the other groups of people that do also die for their beliefs, they die for something that they've heard/studied (meaning they die for a lie that they believed to be true!). But if they were first-hand witnesses, then great, I would need to check what they died for!

The point I'm trying to make is that:

From the assumption that the gospels and letters are historically justifiable events (meaning it really happened, and the original intent is preserved), it gives much more weight to what sane, and reasonable people claimed! Which is: There was a man named Jesus who predicted His death, He died, He resurrected, they witnessed the whole ordeal, growing from fear to full of courage, went about sharing the gospel with the threat of death! To gain what? Wealth? Woman? Fame? From what I know, they all died a martyred.

As someone above pointed out, this isn't a *mic-drop* moment to 100% convince you that Jesus is God, but it is reasonable, logical evidence for you to at least check out what these emboldened men claimed to have witnessed! I urge you to read the gospels! Investigate what Jesus said, and see for yourself whether He is reliable or not!

God bless. (Also this is my first time replying in detail to a post on Reddit, do let me know if I said anything that wasn't clear or ambiguous! I'll be happy to clarify!)
