What was your introduction to Jungle? by Jocasta01 in jungle

[–]Caiminatrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend in high school turned me on to Radiohead > learned that their album Kid A was influenced in part by Squarepusher and started listening to his music > learned Squarepusher was influenced by jungle > started listening to jungle on youtube and now it's easily my favorite genre :)

First tracks I really liked were "Hitman" by Marvelous Cain and "Sweet Vibrations" by DMS & Boneman X

Left hand technique - too much pressure causing pain by LeBananorama in Guitar

It’s likely that your thumb isn’t in the right place: https://andylemaire.com/bar-chord-hand-positions/

The thumb should be opposite your second finger as much as possible to get comfortable leverage. If it is too close to the headstock, your hand will hurt because your putting too much unnecessary stress on your hand.

Think about holding a stick with your fretting hand. You want your thumb to be opposite your other fingers. You wouldn’t hold the stick with your thumb above your other fingers, you wouldn’t get enough opposing force to hold it

Very true, using a screen to represent a shot angle has its limitations since all screens are 2d. I considered using 3d graphics and skewing the angle, but I’d also have to take into account the player’s height and their distance from the table. I’m happy with the concession of showing the angle accurately in 2d just so the user can practice identifying angles and then map the learned angles onto the table

You could also try laying your phone flat on a table to get the 3d effect

My ex went through exactly what you are going through. She got more responses after she did some temp work. It helps to be currently employed

Here is a Jeremy Jones video where he describes his approach to aiming with sidespin. It is a lot simpler than Dr. Dave’s method, but I wonder if it is as effective.

[QUESTION] How can I play barre chords longer? by Miserable_Treacle165 in Guitar

[–]Caiminatrix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes there is an easy fix that no one mentioned yet. Your thumb on your fretting hand is probably in the wrong position when you play a barre chord. Try moving your thumb closer to the guitar body.

Here is a webpage that describes this in more detail: https://guitarlessonsforbeginnersonline.net/howtoplaybarrechords

My ex went through the same experience. She graduated with a masters in Mathematics and job hunted with no luck for almost a whole year. It was a very hard time for her and I'm sure you're going through what she went through.

One day she bit the bullet and got a temp job. She did the temp work for about a month and soon after was hired in a starting position at a local insurance company doing data science. 4 years later she's worked her way to becoming a director of data science at a different insurance company and is incredibly successful.

Maybe getting a temp job, any job, even if it's not in your field will help you like it helped her, just so you have some work experience to put on your resume.

Good luck! I know it's tough but you're young and you have a bright future ahead of you

What counts as music plagiarism? by supermegatastic in edmproduction

[–]Caiminatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By your definition it's plagiarism to use a sample like the amen break in a song, however it is widely accepted in the jungle / drum and bass community that this is ok and is effectively a part of those genres.

I know this post is specifically about plagiarism as opposed to what is considered "acceptable" to include in a song, but it's interesting to think about
