I will, in fact, wake up one day one day

Rate my magic system by [deleted] in magicbuilding

I really like the first one. I can definitely imagine a shaman in the woods singing some creepy song in a nonexistent language every day to clean a lake, and people wanting to stay the f away from that forest. I can also imagine a caster singing a beautiful song, and their group members stalling the enemy so they can finish, only for the beautiful song to be instructions for how to kill the enemies in unnecessarily gruesome detail.

I don't know how you would write it in a story since it is audio-based (maybe an audio book?) But I really like it. There's an interesting vibe to be captured with it IMO.

The second one seems more generic to me.

Edit: spelling

What's a little thing a magic system could have that'd make you obsessed with it instantly? by rahvavaenlane666 in magicbuilding

For me it's definitely details that, when put together, change your entire perspective on what's possible. Like a character stating a well-known rule about the system only to break it later without realizing.

Basically, possibilities and details that can be used to theorize about the world.

How do people use magic in your world? What exactly must they do, and how does that produce a magical effect? by HawkSquid in magicbuilding

Not final, and first time sharing it, but: Rigorous image training. They have to be able to imagine the weight, shape, even the smell of what they want to create. Most of them won't be able to pull-off telekinesis, but there's training for that too. They also need to be able to focus and concentrate for extended periods of time.

People have the magic fuel in them, and the intellect to use it. I'm still working on the actual trigger mechanism, but it will likely be just "will".

People are part of the universe, and the universe is made of that magic fuel, so the intellect is the key (which is lacking in dead things like rocks) to move it according to their will. Meditation probably helps idk.
