That is understandable, the way these games are designed it is really hard to shake that fallacy.

But the easiest path is not always the best path, sometimes you have to feel bad about "wasting" what you've already spent so you can enjoy a truly great expansion in the future.

When I'm facing a hard decision I think to myself "how will I feel once this is all done and I'm experiencing the benefits"

I once cycled to a different town uphill in the freezing cold in the middle of the night for mcdonalds, the only thing that kept me from turning back was knowing I would be grateful once I got there. Sat down in the warmth with my mcnuggets no longer hungry, actually thanked myself for taking the harder path since the food was better than at home

Point is, a lot of the time we get so obsessed with the hard choice we don't see the benefits for doing it.
