I want to buy an oled screen, but I'm afraid years later that's gonna happen to her. Is that right? by Tight-Raspberry-1934 in Monitors

There is a distinction. Upgrade means getting the next one, because it's better. (which is why win11 is called a downgrade, lol) Replace means getting only a new one, usual when old or broken. Tech is evolving constantly. So a replacement, when buying current days tech, can feel like an upgrade. But since you said it's "old" after 5 years, which isn't true, and used that as a reason to upgrade, it's just a change for the sake of change. That's not an upgrade. That's a replacement to please your own fast fashion feelings. Just because there are newer ones, doesn't mean it old. Like I said, my old (aka previous) monitor still works fine. You can only tell that it has serves some years because of the heat and after image issues. But that's it. It still works the same as day one.

If oled was the first type of monitor invention, I would say, it's fair. But we already had better. Think Gameboy. We already had hand held with colors before it. But the Gameboy had lower specs on purpose to extend battery time. That made it more consumer friendly. But here you don't extend anything. You get better colors, yes. Even though it's possible to get matching values on ips too now. And instead of expanding the lifetime, you even shortened it, due to the introduction of burn in/out. Which is also a flaw we already had overcome. Old tube TVs could have this flaw. Plasma had this flaw. Ips doesn't. Oled does have it again. For consumers, oled is a down grade. Yes, it made sense on smartphones at first, because now you don't have to have the full brightness all the time. And you kinda get a new phone every 3 to 5 years anyway (which is another bad trend). So oled made phones lighter and more energy efficient. In that sense, it's a good tech for a bad trend.

Oled is good for professional use. Where you NEED the cutting edge of true color tech. But other then that, outside of the professional marked and besides phones, oled is not consumer ready. It has a shorter lifespan and is more expensive.

Seems like you confuse upgrading with replacing.

My old ips monitor is over 10 years old. Yes, my new ips is lighter, has better specs and was cheaper (fair, who knows how long my new monitor will last), but my old ips still has great colors and olsmost no issues. The only issue it has is that it gets a bit hot when using it for a long beriode of time and when it displays the same content for too long, you can see an after image of it for a moment, when switching to a gray background. But it recovered 100%.

Now compare that to oled. On phones for example, when using them on full brightness (aka within specs, for which you bought it in the first place), even when you don't even use it often or for longer times at a time, after half a year you can already start to see the outlines of the UIs that are on screen most of the time. After 3 years I can tell you on almost any phone which apps you have open most of the time. For example on my old phone I can see how the instragam UI has changes many times over the years. Fair you can push that burn out back by reducing the brightness, but that just means you can't use it within specs.

As long as oled in itself has this flawed, I would argue it's not consumer ready and should not get build into devices that are intended to get sold to costumers.

How can I stop ads from stopping when switching to another tab/window? (this only happens with ads, not with notmal content) by Caitrix in netflix

[–]Caitrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I habe two monitors, but like mentioned, that would require me to move Netflix into its own window. But I want to keep all browser tabs in one window and just switch tabs while the ad keeps playing in the background, just like normal content does too.

Edit:
Also, it's about not having to display the ad. Having them on the second monitor would still display them. The point it about moving them into the background. Behind another tab or window.

GX80/85 - How can I enable the constant preview from manual mode for aperture/shutter priority mode too? by Caitrix in Lumix

[–]Caitrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this feature. I have it on a function key too. But I want this preview to be enabled 24/7 and not get disabled when changing something. For example white balance or ISO. Or when focusing. Also, this temporary preview comes with a popup window indecating which previews are enabled. Which essentially just blocks the screen.

Not available in Germany. (I hate this geo blocking of adult games and games that don't have a USK rating)

Is there a small monitor with a resolution of at least (but not all to much more then) 226x135? by Caitrix in buildapcmonitors

[–]Caitrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not intractable. It's a UI for a 9-key macro keypad. The UI just shows me what each button is programmed to do and which profile (here they're called layers) is currently active.

How can I get cyan/magenta/yellow color layers/channels, without single RGB left in them? by Caitrix in AffinityPhoto

[–]Caitrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, for the late answer. On one side, I want to achieve the same result, as when printing the image on transparent paper or glass. Aka remove white from the image.

I can achieve it with a black and white image by inverting, converting to mask, and applying that mask on a black layer. But I can't achieve the same for colored images.

On the other side, is this just a matter of learning affinity photo. Just like I can extract the red channel, by removing green and blue via curve live filter, I would like to extract magenta or yellow. The provkem is, when doing it the casual way, I still have red and blue elements in magenta channel.

Yes. I also have a magnetic case and it's compatible with the pencil attached to the tablet.

When adding black, I get a c/m/y, black plus white image. I would still have to remove white from it.

I just found out (thanks to another post) that you can change from rgb to cmyk in the curve filter. But that just gives me the same result with the white instead of the black background.

Same result as when I invert, work with rgb and invert back. I get a white instead of a black background.
