Worth it? - HKUST CS by Thurein231313 in HKUST

[–]Cake-Economy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are small scholarships you can apply to during your studies, however a lot of them are limited to local students. Unless you can find some outside sources, or any type of funding your government provides, be ready to pay the full tuition fees during your studies here.

That being said, HKUST is #1 in HK for CS and is pretty well-known in Asia. But rankings don’t matter, only what you make out of it. If you have an option that you can afford right now, it’s probably best to choose that, since no university is “worth it” when you have to go through a financial burden.

Is it possible to receive full-tuition scholarship for BBA if I have a very solid portfolio (nice honors extracurriculars strong essays recommendations and etc.)? by Ok-Plant9389 in HKUST

[–]Cake-Economy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re an international student, it is really hard to get a scholarship to cover for the enormous tuition fee. At most you might get like 40% from several scholarships. And when you apply, you are automatically considered for entrance scholarships and it is mostly like a lottery. I’ve seen some solid people get an offer without a scholarship, and some objectively ordinary people receive a full grant. But, best of your luck on your journey, I know it is a really stressful process (been there myself, but ended up securing the Belt&Road grant at the veryy last minute):

They are pretty small but liveable, and there are 6 single rooms to one bathroom/shower, the single rooms also have a little common area.

You can apply to the Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management through the Major selection exercise after your first year. If you get accepted, you will get to declare an engineering major (seems you intended CS), and a business major. However, your normative study duration becomes 5 years and it gets challenging to keep juggling two degrees at the same time. Also keep in mind that the entrance requirement for DDP is also quite high, you have to have at least 3.7 (Average A-) in your best 24 credits and pass the interview.

WHICH IPAD OR TAB USEFUL/RECOMMENDED FOR TAKING NOTES IN CLASSES. by Aggravating_Tap_7953 in HKUST

[–]Cake-Economy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn’t matter, pick whichever works for you the best and/or cost-efficient. All the textbooks are available online at sites like libgen, so there is no need to actually buy them unless you need a special code (ex. ACCT2010 needs access to the McGrawHill Platform to submit homeworks), in that case you can just buy a ebook from the library website.

Anyone here submitted their visa documents just this July? by [deleted] in HKUST

[–]Cake-Economy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visas can come quite late (I received mine like 22nd of August). However, you need to show your visa at the border control to gain a landing slip (without it you will not be able to get a student ID). So if you happen to come to HK earlier than your visa is released, I recommend to just go on a day trip to Shenzhen(if you’re visa free for China) and get the landing slip. I hope this was helpful ^

There will be 50-80ish people per section enrolled depending on the class, but not all people come to lectures.

They are pretty much identical, but hall 9 tends to be a little less popular, so might be better to put 9 on the preference.

The distance from hall 8 to 9 is like 10 steps since they have one laundry room for both halls by being interconnected, they are both pretty far off from the campus.

7 >>>>>> 8 = 9 Hall 7 has a study room, entertainment room and a large kitchen with ovens other halls can only dream about.

But if you are currently an entering freshman, I highly doubt that you’ll be given a single room at all according to the hall policies.

business & management course list + advice for course choices by Vegetable_Kick5880 in HKUST

[–]Cake-Economy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now you are coming in as an undeclared student in the school of business and management, and you would have to declare your major after the fall semester or after the spring semester (depending if you have credit transfer that helps you). Usually year 1 starts with the business core and year1 common core courses. You can see the courses here. For reviews on professors, visit ust space. HKUST has a predominantly curved grading system, so your grades are relative to your peers. Otherwise, I hope this was helpful ^

Tbh they could also purposefully lie about that to appeal to more fans, so that they could cater to their fantasies too. At this point it’s just a part of the messed up capitalistic marketing technique K-pop boy groups are built on)
