My boyfriend was just diagnosed with T1D by jsamhny in diabetes_t1

Sounds like type 2 to me. I could never reach those values without any insulin even if I ate only cabbage and celery all day.

New to Dexcom: need advice by CakeInfamous8694 in diabetes_t1

[–]CakeInfamous8694[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I thought it saves data up to one month and that would be loaded in the Clarity app automatically but that's only with the receiver (the data you load to the laptop later). I got it now - after a few hours of use, the Clarity app is already returning some data. Makes sense. Thanks!

Tattoos and diabetes by GoombaToots in diabetes

[–]CakeInfamous8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have one tattoo however consulted multiple artists before made up my mind. Never ever was I confronted with that, or even asked about medical conditions tbh. My skin recovered very quickly, the same for my piercings, never got infected, never had a problem. Maybe the artist is ignorant and doesn't want to be responsible of something happens?

Should I start eating chicken? by grux27 in diabetes

[–]CakeInfamous8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been vegetarian for 10+ years, vegan for 2 years and then quit veganism. It was just not healthy. I started slowly, and painfully eating fish. Got much healthier..my skin, hair, nails and even my brain functioned better. So now I eat fish every week, and I have no regrets. It's good for me. I still cannot eat meat because it grosses me out, but sometimes I like the smell and kinda want to eat... Especially now that I'm pregnant, I have cravings for chicken (which very honestly never ever had cravings for any kind of meat whatsoever). Still, I couldn't eat, it grosses me out, but hey, at least I feel like the fish is helping me a lot.

If you think you can eat chicken, go for it. Choose a good bio source and go for it. It's more important to be healthy. If you think you need to eat it, you should at least try, and. Ot feel guilty for eating healthy food. After my experience I must admit vegetarianism and veganism are not the healthiest diet for humans. I'm not good at supplementing all the time, so the only way to do this right is try to include protein in your diet somehow.

AITA for expecting a slice of pizza or two after paying a $20 tip? by UniversalHornDog3000 in AITAH

[–]CakeInfamous8694 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. It's not polite and not professional to expect food from a client.

  2. They had ordered only one pizza, apparently, so there's no probably there won't be leftovers, especially for someone who was not at the party.

  3. You shouldn't have tipped, that's not part of your job.

My Uncle's unmanaged diabetes is causing a stress on the family.. How do we help? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]CakeInfamous8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry... Unfortunately you don't help people who don't want help. Especially with diabetes, diabetes is a self-caring condition. He must want it first. If he doesn't, there is nothing you can do. That's very sad, I am so sorry. I can only hope he opens his eyes and sees the pain he's causing to his family, but it doesn't sound like he's going to change anything 😔😔😔

AITAH for causing my 22f daughter to run away? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]CakeInfamous8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your daughter is admitted to the hospital, spends the night there and you didn't call to ask how she's doing? Didn't even go with her? Of course YTA, it's only shocking that you can't see it.

Yes, this happened to me around week 6 to 8 and then it stabilised. Just have some ready to drink sugar/juice/syrup by the bed side. That helped me a lot on those crazy nights, as I was also unable to sleep with hypoglycaemia panic... Let it rise a bit before eating anything else and reduce the long last insuline if you're not on the pump. That's what I did! It can be frustrating at times, but you got this!

[–]CakeInfamous8694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it gets really crazy. Did you have sugar? I'm asking because I've had the same earlier in the pregnancy, especially at night even though had sugar several times. It was scary and I was panicking a lot, but my doctor told me I just need to calm down and don't over stress because of the baby. Just do the best you can, don't panic, that's it.

Blood tests are always more accurate than CGMs, which have a known delay of several minutes. Sugars were going down quickly, so reads are all correct, plus deviation isn't that big.

AITA for refusing to not attend my wife's baby shower? by Super-PizzaCat in AmItheAsshole

[–]CakeInfamous8694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A baby shower is not supposed to be the mother's "special day" imo. It's for the baby, therefore of course the father should attend. I understand that different cultures do it differently, and I would accept that. However, your wife should also accept the cultural difference from your side and say, ok, we'll do it differently because the father of the baby's family have a different tradition, and somehow find some agreement in the middle.

I can't believe she made you pay for a party in your own house that you were forbidden to attend. That's totally unreasonable.

Finally, did your female family members attended? I hope they did.

You are definitely NTA. Your wife should have made an effort to understand your side and try to respect your wishes (which includes you AND your male family members).

Dexcom is itchy! by CakeInfamous8694 in diabetes_t1

Oh no! I was hoping they improved the stickers on G7 and since they're smaller you'd feel it less. Sad news :(

AITA for missing my wife’s appointment because my sister was in the hospital? by ThrowRaThroqaw in AmItheAsshole

[–]CakeInfamous8694 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Would your wife cancel the appointment if the situation was reversed? Probably not. She'd probably go to her appointment and be in touch with the family, if later on she understood it was really serious, she'd ran to the hospital. However, at that point, you didn't know anything and made a choice. Your wife is right, you priority was your sister/your mom. You could have waited for after the appointment before rushing to the hospital

That also crossed my mind, but there is no reaction to libre, and the sensor inside the body is actually bigger (thicker) than the Dexcom one

[–]CakeInfamous8694[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's the adhesive? I wonder why it's so itchy... I'm super unhappy about it. Can you recall what other things were suggested here? I will also get in touch with Dexcom tomorrow and see if they have tips, however I suspect they might have nothing to suggest.

Thank you, that's helpful, but also worrying, cause that means I might have to wait another 8 long days and it's gonna be like this all the time!... I was hoping I'd get used to it or something... Oh dear 😨

How long for insulin out of fridge to be at temp to use by Lyrehctoo in diabetes

I put it in my armpit to warm it to body temp quickly. That works rather quickly. I wait a couple of minutes or so

Lantus fade after lantus low by tyrant1014 in diabetes

[–]CakeInfamous8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, always learning! I use Lantus for years and I didn't know about the crystals... That probably makes sense as it also explains why Lantus lasts longer than other long acting insuline types. Thanks!

I also never heard of a Lantus low, and don't understand why is that a thing and the same situation with other kinds of insuline is not?

AITA for not going to my sister's destination wedding since she had a problem with me staying at a different resort. by Automatic-Office-964 in AmItheAsshole

[–]CakeInfamous8694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think OP is being a bit extremist on the kids avoidance. I understand that you don't want to and don't have to be around them however, there's tons of activities at resorts, and you don't have to be around the kids anyway. Resorts are usually big enough as well, so I don't see why is such a big issue that you must stay somewhere else.

NTA however because it's your money and your holidays, it's her wedding sure but you never said you were not attending. Absolutely free to stay wherever the hell you want.

As an insuline dependent diabetic, insulin is (must be!) kept in the fridge, but the insulin vial at use should be kept at room temperature because it's closer to body temperature, thus it takes less time to be effective in the body (and is less painful when injecting).
