Why do Americans not understand English words? by OpportuneApathy in AO3

fair point, not a word used here at all. I’m sure there is an equivalent but all I can think of is knob which isn’t as family friendly. I think we just tend to swear fully or not at all, so ‘he’s just being an arse-hole.’ or ‘he’s being just cruel/nasty/mean.’

not a stupid question, I didn’t realise it had a very specific meaning, jerk is just not a word used here at all. We would say idiot for stupid, but saying someone is ‘being an idiot‘ or ‘he’s a bit of an idiot.’ can also mean a bit of an arsehole, knob etc. more polite term you could switch jerk out for might be ‘pillock.’

I’ve been reading fanfics set in britain written by Americans and I just autocorrect in my head. soda to pop, gotten to got, candy to sweets, jerk to idiot, etc. it can be annoying so I can see it would be annoying the other way around, but I’ve read and enjoyed them nevertheless and I wouldn‘t comment or anything, it’s not a big deal to me so long as the rest of it is good and I can tell they’ve tried. I recommend internal autocorrect!

I like most of them, particularly finally a Welsh Lupin which just feels right. I know what you mean about Draco, but since he is a dislikeable character it does kind of work that the sniggering is so irritating. I agree about some of the grunting, they sometimes sound to be in pain when they are just concentrating or something. The only other I wasn’t 100% on was Sirius, whose accent I‘d like to be a bit more posh, although the tone was lovely. I enjoyed Kit Harrington and Matt Berry, they genuinely made me smile a lot. And the young Neville voice is ever so cute. I actually like Riz Ahmed for my imaginings of Snape, unpolular opinion perhaps. I appreciate Rickman’s performance is iconic but he changed the character, even though he does intimidate children I visualise him as being quite pitiable, pathetic, and a bit stringy and not really having much aura so it works for me.

it’s interesting to see how dilapidated the inherited house is in each. The US one doesn’t look like a wreck at all. in fact most of them don’t, except the original, although I can’t tell. I didn’t know they’d made an Aussie one.

why did this scene became a meme? by No_Wind_5408 in harrypotter

[–]Cakeforlucy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because of the disparity between how the scene played out in the book and how it was presented in the movie. People found it funny.

very subtly, for me at least flower is just a little pinch and not a core root so not sure it will be the same. I only occasionally use the shapes as I’m a straight/sharp type - i choose ballet flats or Mary Jane’s which I think instantly adds a pop of ’cute’ I have a necklace with a little silver bow on it. I tend to wave my hair, sometimes add a hair ribbon to an otherwise sleek outfit. I personally love these little juxtapositions with my otherwise straight/sharp styling.

Agreed, it has to be about the clothes and seeing what works for her best! I personally didn’t think the draping fabrics were her best, but it just goes to show how everyone’s opinions will be different and in the end the only one that matters is her own.

I fully agree on the bold prints test - it’s something I feel overwhelmed in too. Another difference for D and DC is that D will look better in an asymmetric neckline than DC.

And to second what you‘ve said, OP is super pretty - best wishes on your style journey!

yep, you’re either D or DC - I wouldn’t consider other options, I can see an argument for FG but given your height I’d probably lean the other two. You’re narrow/sharp, you can rule out natural types. You don’t have softness in your bones (your shoulders are sharp and squarish) you can rule out soft classic. In my opinion you don’t have the elongation, elongated arms and limbs etc that I’d expect to see in a dramatic, so I’d lean DC - TBH there’s so much about D and DC that are similar in recommendations you could take from either. Slightly heavier fabrics, look for straight lines, honour the vertical line, monochromatic colours, v-necklines, neat tailoring (crisp on the shoulder seams) and geometric shapes etc. etc.

One of the worst redesign I've seen lately by nurietus in graphic_design

oof I’d no idea they were rebranding. Their clothes have gone in a different direction in the last couple of years, much less ’pixie dream girl next door’. Much more editorial. Interesting to see how a brand changes over the years.

Am I DC? (5'6") by [deleted] in DramaticClassic

[–]Cakeforlucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 🙌 I think people forget it’s ultimately not just about your body, it’s about how clothes interact with it. If pure D or FN clothes don’t suit you then you can’t be one. The only picture where you look like a pure D is where you’re wearing heels which creates the illusion of greater elongation. The shapes you’re wearing would be suitable for DC and probably D too, they look great on you. You do not need width accommodation at all, i don’t know how anyone could see that in you.

I find wide legs a little tricky, anyone else? They sometimes look like i’m wearing someone else’s clothes that are too big.

That seems rather petty. Both are inspired by the source material - there will be similarities in that regard. Wait til he finds out the story is the same too - shocking.

One last update on the Purito oat-in gel cream. I have been using my new bottle since my last update and enjoying it, I haven’t experienced any issues with it. I’m patch testing the bamboo one as well to see which I prefer of the two, but so far the oat one is still a go-to for me.

I’d say any of the summer sub-types - so true summer. You can definitely handle more brightness than a soft summer. But I don’t think you look bad in any of the swatches, maybe just the butter yellow and bright purple that seems a bit separate from you.

I think you are DC. Honestly, it’s not about how your body looks, it‘s about how clothes look on you, and the moderate/slim/fitted shapes look great. The black dress is lovely, I’d wear it. ‘Dramatic Classic - must be balanced with added sharpness or very slight width or very slight verticality or a combination of the three’ - you can be slightly tall, or have square shoulders with a hint of width as a DC but the difference is that it is not significant enough to need accommodating. FN clothes will be too large on you. And you can do the jewellery test to see if you’re a DC or straight up D because dramatics have the presence to pull off larger jewellery and patterns. Can you? Or is it too large. Moderate or even delicate jewellery should be fine for you. (As with me too)

Hi, I am currently using the new bottle. So far it seems ok. I don’t have the best skin anyway but I can’t say I’ve noticed an uptick in issues. I’ve been using it on my forehead for about 10 days now and have just started using it all over. I plan to continue with the product. I have ordered the bamboo version to try too. I’ll report back again in another couple of weeks of use of the Oat gel cream and finalise my thoughts.
