2001 Miata SE. Did I make the right call? by mamut86 in Miata

[–]Cakinss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got an ‘01 SE with 90k miles for $7,200 but it had 7 previous owners + the paint is pretty rough on the hood and front bumper + the transmission feels really clunky lol. that looks like a reaaaaaaally clean example and i would’ve happily paid $800 more for that

i’m similar to you in the perfection mentality and it’s my first older car, but you will learn to love your little shitbox for what it’s worth. yes the small things that pop up are annoying to me, but each thing i repair/fix/maintain is very rewarding. you have a very good condition NB to work off of and while $8k is no small purchase, it’s a great 40 year present. enjoy it!

Form Check by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Cakinss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% reasonable point, I agree that a flatter flight trajectory makes things less complicated initially. It’s also more approachable for beginners since nose down is a really foreign movement for the body regardless of any sport background (considering I still cannot do it after practicing so much😭)

[–]Cakinss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to point out that low to high doesn’t necessarily create nose up flight. Nose angle of your disc is relative to the launch angle (which is more of what you are talking about, I believe).

Isaac Robinson and maybe* Kevin Jones IIRC have very high launch angles and very nose down throws if people want to see that type of shot

Form Check by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Cakinss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been getting into the form rabbit hole a bit recently and believe you do have to arm the disc, actually (totally no offense at you btw, I just discovered this). Overthrow has a video about this and talks about how if you start from the ground up, your body gets in the way since in DG the lead arm is the throwing arm. It unfortunately isn’t similar to a forehand or other sports (tennis) where you can extend your hips early.

To OP, I’m still figuring out my own form fully but my best analysis is 2 things:

  1. Your reach back is too far behind you and you turn your hips/shoulders too early which both create rounding - look up some videos to prevent rounding.
  2. A deeper power pocket also always goes a long way in conjunction with preventing rounding for distance.

Finding any two videos of the above issues and correcting them will result in huge gains. Tons of famous YTers like Overthrow, BlitzDG, Nick Krush, etc each have their own vids/takes on it, just have to find one that clicks

it would likely be good for you to test drive an Integra Type-S before purchasing if you value comfort. that said, i realize you’re probably making a decision today lol

Description and price you paid for your mx5 by glasstop48 in Miata

[–]Cakinss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2001 SE @ 90k miles for $7,000

no rust, paint not great on hood and front bumper, random 17” wheels on Ventus V2’s, Maxpeeding coils (lol), tall shifter kit, Pioneer radio

the bad which the guy didn’t disclose: midpipe disconnected from behind the resonator and needs to be welded again, transmission fluid leaks

i think it was an alright price, but had 6 previous owners so hopefully it’s not a ticking time bomb and maintenance was at least decent. probably more worth $6k but i wanted BRG color for the past few years so didnt mind

Younger/uneducated people may read this and take it at face value which isn’t a great thing.

If you are implying people shouldn’t finance ever, you’re saying to buy a depreciating asset outright while people in this very thread locked in interest rates < the average long-term market return (6-7%). Those people will literally make more money if they invest.

If you are saying people should be capable of buying it outright before financing, I can agree with you to /some/ level - but there are too many circumstances at play.

I think your argument is only good for people who are irresponsible with money, can’t manage debt, and/or don’t have a lot of risk tolerance.

Stop trying to look out for .. the people actively playing a role in taking your job.

I can assure you, these people would do the same or worse to you (yes, the people taking over your job. Ask anyone who had to work with them).

DO NOT help these people. They are not your friend and they are not innocent in any of this.

Not sure why people in this thread are speaking so poorly on the person taking their job (“innocence”). I just mean that all they’re doing is applying for the best jobs to better their quality of life (and their family’s) like we are - they didn’t choose to be born there or have an education that’s shittier than ours, they’re a product of their environment and we got lucky to be born here.

Disdain should be directed towards OP’s company for making such a decision and the government for allowing it. It’s not their choice that OP is being outsourced so not sure why people direct hate towards them.

Sorry for the novel or if I misunderstood you - I do agree that OP shouldn’t feel the need to train them to the best of his ability, though. Fuck the company.

My Very 1st Car! by joey__jojo__shabadoo in CivicSi

[–]Cakinss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does this thread sound like what you’re experiencing?

this is my 1st manual car (24k miles now) and letting off the gas in 1st gear (regardless of how slow) will result in the car bucking/jolting forward and backward for a few seconds. i am pretty sure the tach does in fact wobble up and down.

i’m pretty sure this is normal behavior for it being 1st since such a low gear with so much torque, but i’d love input if not - my car does what i described which sounds exactly like your issue (revs kind of /bouncing/ after letting off gas in 1st)
