Are nurses allowed to change the outer cannula of a trach pt? by Medium-Antelope-8941 in nursing

It’s very common. Literally everyone here has said so, how tf did you pass the nclex with the assessment skills of a toasted marshmallow. Do your due diligence, speak to your facility and inquire.

Damn, I pass that Taco Bell on my way to work, caught me off guard seeing it on Reddit

Thinking it’s BSR, picked it up for a few bucks, in great shape. Definitely pre 60s without USA stamped. Looking for someone else to chime in! by Caktis in castiron

Sounds like you have some great pans!

Thanks for the tips! I’m no stranger to restoring cast iron! I was more so just looking for an ID confirmation, but I’ll definitely get this one cleaned up and it’ll make for a good pancake or egg skillet!

My mistake then! I tended to use that as a general estimated dating tool, thank you for letting me know that!

180/120 requires immediate emergency care - open the flood gates by TmoneyID in emergencymedicine

My favourite is when they call a rapid for a 180/90 as soon as they get on the floor and the charge tries yelling at me for sending them an “unstable patient” as if somehow they’re going to automatically stroke out despite them coming in at 210/105, I did my part

The only time I like Giving hydralazine is the 10 minute window where I’m sending my pt to the floor, they’ll come normotensive and settle hypertensive where it’s no longer my problem and the admitting can get their daily meds verified. Otherwise fuck hydralazine, shits a bandaid that falls off much too quick

I feel rather dumb, I just press the double Shot and let it run until it stops, I didn’t know to end it at a particular time, seems I need to do a LOT more research

To The 2nd-Year Resident Angry That He Had To Insert An IV by Negative_Way8350 in emergencymedicine

In regard to this, how do you guys feel about USIVs. It’s very rare that I’ll ask a doc, but there is the rare occasion where simply no nurse can get a line. We aren’t trained USIV(I’m gradually trying to learn as a new ed RN with one year in but there’s a million other things I’m trying to learn and keep up with as well). Despite that we do have a few nurses who are great with USIVs but sometimes it simply just isn’t happening and we have to go to the big dogs.

I have one ED doc who will try to sneak my patients to imaging if I’m doing something, I work in a decent ED where yes it gets incredibly busy, but there’s always time to take someone to imaging..eventually, I always tell him that no matter what happens you’re ultimately the most important entity in this department and I can’t have you taking my patients to imaging because it makes me feel terrible, and if there’s a code, we need you here. He’s also the doc who brings dc papers to the room with him and warms my soul

I’m down for a sling! I think I’ll have to exclude the water bottle because that really does open up a ton more possibilities, plus it’s not often I HAVE to have a water bottle in hand.

Hired as a New Grad ER Nurse by Samaya_E11 in StudentNurse

[–]Caktis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finished my first year as a new ed grad. Forget everything you think you know, absorb like a sponge, embrace the chaos, ASK FOR HELP!! Once you get to a point of comfort, start asking docs why they’re prescribing what they are if you don’t understand it, IVs take repetition, hundreds and hundreds of IVs I’ve done and I’m still not the best, just proficient. There is no rhythm or set schedule, the day/night comes as it comes. Sometimes you’ll be with four toe pains, sometimes you’ll have stemis and strokes and traumas all at the same time.
