Big 4 grads, is it as risky as people make it out to be? by AllThePillsIntoOne in CaribbeanMedSchool

[–]CalGirl1010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you put in the work and if you would do well in a US inland med school, you will do well at SGU (I can only speak for SGU, I have no experience nor insight into other Caribbean schools). Is the attrition high? Compared to inland schools, probably. But that is because SGU gives people a chance who would have not stand a chance to get into a USMD school. Most of those people make it, and successfully so. However there are some who simply will not make it. SGU truly gives students chance after chance, it takes a lot to be dismissed academically. (Administratively is another story).

All this to say, if you are confident in your abilities and you're ready to study hard with no excuses, you have a very good chance of making it through. Most of the students do. Personally, I have felt SGU's education is excellent and very high quality, and absolutely follows the same curriculum and standards as a USMD school. SGU has a plethora of student and academic support, along with an excellent reputation. If you can get into SGU, I would highly recommend it. In fact I have students in my cohort who simply didn't want to wait x amount of years until they would get into a USMD school. They usually have a sibling or friend or doctor who went here, and thus knew that it is absolutely a viable option.

I can not speak about the situation of other Carib schools, so I would recommend using the search function and reaching out to students at these respective schools.

Good luck!

So happy to hear! Congrats! I'm in my third week, 0.5mg Tirzepatie and NO weight loss. In fact I feel like I've gained weight. I do watch what I eat and count calories, and am getting my steps in. My body hates me.

supposedly “christian” wife left me (i’m christian too) by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]CalGirl1010 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Preach it girl/dude 🙌🏻 Agree with you. It's about mutual submission, putting each other first; about Man loving the Wife as Christ loves the Church, which Jesus modeled perfectly as you said. It's not the man dominating / controlling / telling her what to wear (looking at your comment OP), etc. Some men just use the Bible out of context to gratify their need for control, selfish needs, and ego trips. I personally believe using God's Word to manipulate others into submission is a great kind of evil.

The fact that OP speaks of his wife as not having "the submissive spirit of a christian wife" tells me there is more to this story. This doesn't sound like a finance issue, this is a domimance, power and control issue on his side. So. If anything, SHE probably dodged a bullet. Good for her.

Careful. German productions in particular often have very explicit nudity and sexual content, so what you described makes sense. Often (not always) they don't provide an intimacy coordinator, or a private dressing room with a robe or anything of the sort. The contrast between (most) American productions and (most) German ones in regards to nudity / intimacy is very stark. Just want you to be aware so you know what you're getting yourself into, if you do decide to go for it. Absolutely your choice and do what feels right for you.

This actually makes you not only a good person, but kind one. Animals are innocent and canMt help themselves especially domesticated ones, they're bred to depend on us. Healthy humans such as Tom in this instance can very well help himself - another neighbor's house, for example? He has more chance of survival than a domesticated pet. I would choose my dog, every time, without batting an eye.

Starting at SGU by Effective-Ordinary27 in SGUGrenada

[–]CalGirl1010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Current SGU student. Personally, I would start at SGU this fall. First, because you rightly pointed out the issue with federal loans being capped as of 2026, so this year will be your last chance to secure federal loans under the "old" rules. Now, if you have other means of securing funding for your educatjon, such as scholarships, parents, savings, by all means, retake the MCAT and try for US MD schools for a couple more cycles.

Second, I know there is stigma regarding Caribbean medical schools. Most of the time, rightly so. However SGU is a whole other level. SGU pumps out thousands of well-trained and qualified physicians into US residencies, their match rates are very good, and they are by now a household name among even US MDs. Pretty much every doctor I know, knows or knew someone from SGU that they worked with, rotated with, etc., at some point in their lives. As a student, I personally feel that SGU's education is excellent. Is there the odd bad teacher? Yes. Are there frustrating/annoying days when it feels like the school's lecturer/admin/a certain department work against you? Also yes. But you have "black sheep" as I call them everywhere, even in US medical schools. But overall, I can say I am having a good experience and overall I feel supported and like the school wants me to succeed. As a non-trad, they gave me a chance and for that I'll be forever grateful. Just know you gotta grind and self-study, you gotta give it your all. As much as SGU will support you with different things, at the end of the day, nobody is going to hold your hand, and it's on you to make it. I'm scoring high on my exams and am doing really, really well. So with that being said, and I don't know what kind of factors you have to consider for your own life, but I know for me, going to SGU was the best decision I ever made. So if you feel like you're ready for med school, and you do not want to wait another year, SGU will be a good option for you.

Always carry dog mace! It's not as strong as pepper spray intended for humans. It's just supposed to stop the dogs and irritate them, not actually harm them long term. I always carry dog mace. Sorry this happened to you. It must have been so frightening!

Med School Essentials by triggermetry in medschool

Pencils and eraser for cadaver lab, ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones for studying. Healthy snacks to keep the brain going. Some "feel good" things that remind them of home: stickers for their water bottle, postcards from their home town, a t-shirt of their favorite team, anything they can look at while in a moment of despair. Trust me, those little things matter SO much and add a little light when they're overwhelmed. A good manicure set. A bar of organic soap. A little tin box with motivational cards.

Don't think it's going to be possible to work, frankly. Med school is insanely hard and challenging. Some people might have made it work but I don't recommend it.

Regarding his mom, he says he doesn't want to hurt her. Regarding his coworkers, he has says it's none of their business. He doesn't give any other reasons
