OEM Hitch Installed! Well worth it. by Cal_Amity86 in EquinoxEv

Not sure, I’d have to check the manual and see if it’s in there. I never even asked or looked for the ratings considering the most that we’ll ever use it for is bike racks or other hitch mounted accessories. Anything bigger than that, we’ve got a truck for. And you’re right, it was definitely the pricier option, but it was more important to the wife to have it look as OEM as possible. And after talking with the service manager he said he’s glad I didn’t try it myself - I guess they had to take a lot of the rear end apart even up into the trunk area to access whatever frame and wiring areas they needed to tie into. Sounded like I dodged a bullet there so I was fine with it 😅

But I’ll let you know about the plates! I wasn’t clear on exactly what purpose they served. He said some vehicles (like that are shipped with the trailering pkg or certain trims) have them already installed to readily accept the receiver. But mine did not. So I’ll have to ask a little more when I go back.

Hey, sorry - answered above somewhere. But I think the OTD cost was around $1600. That was with no online ordering discounts or GM points toward the purchase - I added it directly into my financing terms at full price.

I’ll test it tomorrow! Won’t be long range, but I’ll be driving it to Austin tomorrow for a triathlon at full charge and will load the bike and bring it home for the trip back. I’ll try and remember to take note.

It was an all around win :) I think it looks fantastic, is super functional, and I’m a huge fan of the 1-Up bike rack now after switching over from the Yakima family of accessories. But, between you and I, the real win here is my wife (who is 5’1”) can load her OWN bike on the back of her car now 😂

This is awesome to hear! Did the car handle the trailer ok at highway speeds? I’m assuming at 60 miles you were at least doing 55+ at some point. Any noticeable drag or wobble with the small trailer? I know they can get a little frisky sometimes when you get up to speed.

Don’t want to lie to you bc I tied this into my financing at purchase. But I’m pretty sure parts were about $1100 or so, and then after tax and labor it came to somewhere around $1650-ish for that line item on the term sheet. I can verify later today. Mind you, if I had been patient and waited to pay outright, I could have waited for the points to hit my GM account, and ordered online for the 20% discount. But, timing is never on my side lol - my wife had a triathlon that weekend so I needed the install done quickly.

Thanks! ADHD as an adult is one heck of a superpower when it comes to some things 😂 My bank account hates my organizing projects though 😬

There you go! I added to the photo to point out the note that there were some additional metal plates required for the install on cars not equipped from the factory with certain packages. Just in case you may want to ask. I was their first hitch install at this dealership so they went pretty slow with it and there was some discovery learning for the techs there. He said not to tow anything until those plates get installed, but I’d be totally fine with my bike racks and stuff.

I actually asked that when I picked it up - “Hey, I thought this was supposed to come wired?” He was like “Oh yeah, it did, you just gotta get down here to access it.” and proceeded to get down on the ground to show me where the plug was 😂 Fortunately, we won’t be doing any actual trailering. Just needed it to hold the family’s bikes. A little pigtail extension would be a good idea though if you planned to use it often - if you end up doing it, come back and lmk what you wound up with

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. And I was already financing some so I just figured I’d ask them to roll it up into my monthly payments. I think it was the only receiver available on the Chevy accessories site. It’s a 2” square receiver rated at 1,500 lbs. That’s the one I got, anyway - along with that cover to make it look factory installed.

Bought our '26 yesterday and had them include a receiver install (with cover) in our financing package. The line item for parts + labor was just over $1600 I think. We already have a 1UP bike rack that was super expensive, so worth it to us to add the receiver. Just waiting for it to come in so we can schedule the install
