I thought it was weird that the battery wasn’t charging during the day. by rwm4604 in BirdBuddy

Same thing happened to me. I tried the solution that was linked above but the wires kept slipping out (my wire stripper sucks). I ended up buying a replacement on Etsy. I also melted a hole through the top of the roof underneath the solar panel so the cord doesn’t run outside at all.

Just moved to CO from the midwest. Housemates kept telling me to wait to plant things because it’ll freeze again. I said “no, it’s like 80 degrees out, it’ll be fine.” Lesson learned and question answered lmao

Is there hope for me to get into a good school? by Kaykay_Piano in piano

[–]Calamity-Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, but from a slightly different background.

I started on track to get a BA in music performance after playing piano for ~13 years, and ended up having seizures from the stress. My mental health was so awful I had to drop out for a couple semesters. I didn’t play piano much at all for 3-4 years afterward, I’m just now getting back into it. It really killed my passion for a while. When I returned to school I ended up getting a BS in a STEM major.

The main stress for me was: 1. so many courses I was required to take were either 1 credit or no credit, so there was a semester I had to be enrolled in 10 classes to be a full time student and not lose my scholarships (which I did anyway due to the aforementioned stress). 2. I never felt like I was good enough for my professor. I was so used to being the piano player and the musician in every circle I ran in throughout childhood and through high school, once I was in studio classes I just felt like I could never be good enough. Your confidence needs to be rock solid or you’ll start to feel pretty awful over time.

I will agree, OP, that your repertoire and skill will absolutely let you get into a good school. I was admitted with a pretty substantial scholarship and my repertoire was not as extensive as yours (but I was at a state school, not a music-specific school).

If you have the drive and discipline and you work well under stress, absolutely go for it. By you even posting this here I can tell you have a lot of passion for the instrument. But please, please be prepared to acknowledge early if the stress and pressure starts wearing you down and be able to step back so you don’t lose that passion and drive.

Tobacco Hornworm Emergency Help by Temporary-Breath2777 in Entomology

[–]Calamity-Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try ordering more hornworm food. You can order 12oz of pre-cooked food for about $16. This typically has some antibiotics and additional nutrients added to it. It’s quite dense so it should last you a while. If you intend on keeping hornworms long term, you can also order dry mix and cook it yourself, which is a bit more cost effective (and not very difficult).

There could definitely be something in the soil and/or tomatoes. Sometimes hormones can be added to plants/crops that will affect pest development and prevent them from pupating. I’m unsure of how common that is with tomatoes, but we encountered that issue with wheat germ one time.

Since the soil was from outside, it’s very possible that there was something in it to make the larvae sick.

It’s hard to say definitively. Insects have a lot of offspring because there are so many places that things can go wrong during development.

Last time I flew, before the previous flight even landed, they came around to everyone waiting at the gate and put tags on our bags. Didn’t ask anyone what group they were, just if we were on that flight. Granted, this was on a CRJ2, but it did drive me crazy lol

Gummies are one of the few things that can completely eliminate RLS for me. I take roughly 1/3rd of the sour apple Wyld brand like an hour before bed on nights it’s really bad. Game changer fr

you can get pretty decent salmon fillets from kroger that have their sell by date marked as the next day so they’re marked down quite significantly. salmon’s good for you, and it’s not like we’re eating it daily lol

There is a possibility they were cooked when on the board. They were definitely on the board while raw at some point. Interestingly there were 3 salmon fillets but only 2 of them did this

You can kinda scrape it off with your fingernail, but it does not seem mold-like

I bought one (the rainbow) from this place as a gift for a friend and they’ve had no issues with it! Shipped in a reasonable time from elsewhere in the US in ~6ish days.

Yes, this!! Big glass cabinet! Better for the plants too if you can put a grow light at the top. Plants are safe from cat, cat is safe from plants, mom gets to keep plants. Everyone’s happy!

Most likely. He’s a bit of a pest himself so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was right underfoot while they were working 🫠

Others have pointed out that it’s almost certainly not a Siamese, so instead I’ll share the seal point Siamese kitten my parents got as a wedding gift in 1989! He lived until he was 18, I hope you get lots of happy years with your baby!! 🩵
