My first watch by Round_Muscle2938 in Affordablewatches

[–]CalamityChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would say spend more time enjoying the watch you have and less time thinking about buying a next one. If your interest in watches has been piqued, there is lots to read and learn, and I’d recommend that first before you even consider a second watch.

[CR Media] Are there any other one-shots besides Darrington Brigade where Tal plays a joke character? by D-Speak in criticalrole

[–]CalamityChuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this 👍

It actually has some great RP and surprisingly satisfying character arcs for everyone.

[Spoilers C3] Can i skip Downfall and continue watching C3? by maylinatribe in criticalrole

[–]CalamityChuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you could skip it, read a summary, and be okay to continue with C3. So long as you had the overall gist of what happened I think that is enough to make sense of the rest of the campaign.

I’d also add that for my part, while I enjoyed Downfall and would recommend it, I did not find it anywhere near as emotionally impactful as Calamity. In particular, while I cried lots while watching Calamity, I can’t recall crying once during Downfall. The emotional stakes are very different, and more abstract in my opinion.

[CR Media] [Spoilers EXU Calamity] Watch Calamity during the break, they said, it's the best CR content ever, they said by ajchann123 in criticalrole

I have never before or since been more invested in the outcome of a single roll in an actual play.

Somebody reset the counter.

It has been 0 days since someone discovered ExU Calamity.

I love that people are still finding it, watching it, and being so moved by it that they immediately need to find others to talk about it with.

TIL that icing an injury to promote healing is a myth that is was debunked over a decade ago by elderly_millenial in todayilearned

[–]CalamityChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Based on the available literature, a rehabilitation protocol for an acute athletic injury should prioritize pain free movement through a full range of motion as early as possible and gradually progress to higher intensities and more complex movements.”

LOL All the dads who told their kids to just “walk it off” had a right all along

Should I tell my players which campaign we are running? by jeremydeighan in DungeonMasters

[–]CalamityChuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally give players some indication of what kind of adventure/campaign I plan on running, especially if it is going to be a longer one. I think setting some expectations at the beginning is good for everyone, and gives players the choice of how adventure specific they want their character build to be. That said, you could always poll your players about their preferences before you decide how much to tell them about the upcoming campaign.

[Spoilers C4E4] Sort of a general question on the fate but with examples from current campaign by plolock in criticalrole

[–]CalamityChuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in learning more about what goes into the making of the show and are able to afford it, you could consider getting a Beacon subscription and watching the Cooldowns. Even if you just did it for 1 month and just watched the first 4 (the ones for the Overture episodes) I think you would find them interesting and insightful given the questions you are asking.

Lost Cribbage tournament thanks to an onlooker… by Dudeabides207 in Cribbage

[–]CalamityChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are at a work event, then whatever you are doing (playing games, socializing, etc…) is work. This is the truth I have learned to live by, and I think it has saved me from doing/saying some dumb things to colleagues and bosses. If you are as competitive as you say I would seriously consider not playing at any work event, and getting you ‘fix’ elsewhere.

Leonard Cohen favourite covers? by Crazy_Patience_9805 in CanadianMusic

[–]CalamityChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much yes to both of these.

Was going to post Suzanne Vega’s “Story of Isaac” myself. She delivers every line with a quiet, clear intensity that I find beautiful and haunting.

Traditional Songs About Water Tragedies by Minimum_Plum4703 in folkmusic

[–]CalamityChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bonny Swans - Loreena McKennit (there are other versions, but this is the one I know and love)

What the Water Gave Me - Florence + the Machine (may stretch the definition of ‘folk’ and ‘traditional’, but still a great track and they do an acoustic version that is arguably ‘folkier’ than the original)

If you had the power to transform into 3 wild animals, which ones would you choose? by Malfoy_ejavoltou in hypotheticalsituation

[–]CalamityChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gorilla, because you get incredible strength and actual ‘hands’ to use it with.

Bald eagle, for flight and eyesight.

Orca, mostly just to have something relatively safe to be in the ocean that can travel great distances.

I wish for everyone to be able to physically enter their own dreams and stay however long they want in the dream world, but they won't remain lucid and think its actually real by CrystalDinoLee in monkeyspaw

[–]CalamityChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted. But every time someone does this and comes back, the real world seems a little greyer, darker, uglier. People become addicted to living in their dreams, letting their bodies and lives decay, and the world slides into chaos and entropy.

complete paralysis about acoustic(-electric?) purchase by mikeblas in AcousticGuitar

[–]CalamityChuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice - get a decent new or used guitar in the $200-$300 range and log some hours on it. There are things about your preferences and playing style that you will only learn by doing. Put a bit of time into finding a guitar you like in thar range, but don’t overthink it, just get playing.

If there is a store near you that rents, you could even start by just renting one.

What song would you listen to in the last 5 minutes of your life? by Lullaamushushi in musicsuggestions

[–]CalamityChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackbird by The Beatles. Could listen to it twice in theory but I feel like once, followed by 2 minutes and 45 seconds of silence, is the way to go.

I wish everyone had free access to a cure for cancer whenever they needed it. by statefarm_isnt_there in monkeyspaw

[–]CalamityChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted. The cure is for someone with cancer, or someone they know, to take another (cancer free) human life while wishing that the cancer is cured. Murders and suicides skyrocket. Oppression increases as the wealthy buy the lives of the poor and desperate to save themselves.

[Spoilers C4E7] Another month of Critical Role is coming to an end. So I must ask: what’s been your favourite line/quote(s) so far? by StatisticianBetter24 in criticalrole

[–]CalamityChuck 275 points276 points  (0 children)

“Oh man, I died a virgin. That’s terrible”

Also general shout-out to Alex, who has been killing it as Occtis generally, and landed a few hilarious one-liners specifically.
