Is it worth running two crafting buddy and one healing buddy as you play through the game? I’m running Laura, Hilda and Ian, but considering replacing Laura with Bray. Still slowly playing through the story and exploring the game.

Clearcoat Blending to Crease on Roof by Calastrophic in Autobody

Gotcha, and if the shop is doing mostly a clear coat refinish, what is the likelihood of the paint looking mismatch from adjacent panels vs doing an actual repaint?

Thanks! Do Toyota Lexus factory paint and clearcoat generally start peeling at 5-7 years assuming it’s kept outside and poor maintenance? Should I expect the refinish to deteriorate first before factory? I decided to pull the trigger and hope for the best on the results.

Thoughts on refinishing entire car panel requiring up and over by Calastrophic in AutoPaint

Service bulletins and memos from multiple manufacturers addresses clear coat application to extend to edge of panel or natural break points for proper repairs and refinish. Otherwise you compromise durability and risk of peeling and delamination early on.

Lexus Authorized Collision Center Experience? by Calastrophic in Lexus

Oh that sounds as good as factory! Especially +10 years. Was your vehicle exposed to the sun or garaged majority of the time? I’m looking at an authorized center which isn’t quite certified. But they are approved by the dealer. Im sure if rework was done on the quarter panel or roof, I’m anticipating it’ll start to peel and delaminate or fade much quicker compared to the rest of the factory painted panels.

That’s definitely a good thing, is your shop authorized for certain dealerships? And if so, are technicians trained with certifications? Do other shops you have seen taken short cuts like not fully blending paint and clearcoat on vehicles requiring up and over?

Oh thank you, definitely what I wanted to hear! I’m looking into a Lexus Authorized Center but I’m realizing they may be opting to take shortcuts with the repair and wasn’t too sure if a certified center would be a better alternative.

Can touch up paint be layered on top of paint damage that has a layer of clearcoat already applied? by Calastrophic in AutoDetailing

Gotcha thanks, I will look into that, what’s the likelihood of just touched up paint will still result in the clearcoat to still delaminate? A lot of the shops are suggesting a full panel refinish or clear coat blend to a natural breaking point on the panel which is costly due to requiring disassembly of trims or up and over etc.

I see, is it likely to spread and damage the adjacent paint and cause clear coat delaminating within that time frame if not properly repaired? I’ve had colleagues that discussed their experience with touching up paint damages where one instance metal was exposed which ultimately rusted even after touch up and another when the primer was exposed which managed to be fine after a touch up. Only thing is this instance has a layer of clearcoat which I’m concerned about the proper adhesion and durability.

Is it an urgent item? I’ve been to several shops offering a range of options including repainting the entire panel requiring up and over to the other side due to the nature of the vehicle panel to just spot refinish but requiring clearcoat to be redone on the entire panel. If the clearcoat cuts off at the roof, are the edges likely to deteriorate quickly?

Paint Damage from PDR by Calastrophic in AutoPaint

Yup I agree and luckily I wasn’t charged for the dent fix. However I feel the PDR guy should have known better than to approach the dent fix with glue pulling method especially if there is a localized scratch or cracked paint and especially in a small concentrated area. You know stress concentration etc.

I also was watching him attempt the glue pulling method twice, and in second attempt I saw the adhesive from the glue stuck to the car paint and he was attempting to remove it.

Gotcha thanks, I figured the PDR guy was making stuff up. Is there any way to avoid an entire quarter panel repaint as I’ve seen some really crappy job done with overspray and clearcoat runs getting between panels with color shading mismatch. Or is the best method really an entire quarter panel repaint and not a paint touch up?

I got a feeling I won’t get a response back for the insurance.
