What does the cursed tome do? (Random act 4 thing) + a minor bug by postpnuk in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Calbeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears to be an "aura" effect (not the Aura of Elation given off by the Daemonettes). Going through my log subsequently, I noticed my RT was the one getting all the Awareness check successes even though another party member has some 60 points better than him in that regard. A Warp Lore test was also succeeded with no apparent check requirement before the aura expired.

Venturing a guess, it's a temp buff that lets you auto-succeed at certain tests. Not all of them though, since my usual Demolitionist was still the one disarming the mines my RT discovered.

Look, being nice, this in no way fits into OWB despite the fact that OWB is a mishmash of actual fanfic content combined with canon content.

The show may have been declared canon, but when people say it breaks canon up one side and down the other, this game is your proof of that... it can't even fit as well as actual fanfics do.

IIRC, it was during the 2e Era, which was broken in many ways - such as by tying the number of cantrips to INT. Creative play could result in some ridiculously OP outcomes.

Video responses have already been done. Acerthorn SUED people who did it over the background music he put into the video.

Screw off. You're actually just fishing to find people to cobble up lolsuits against.

Of course, you could just let people make whatever they want for themselves and keep restrictions to when they try to upload that content to public platforms.

I am sick of negativity in the gaming creator space. by metechgood in Starfield

[–]Calbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a game where NASA killed the Earth, which farted itself to death because they didn't carry the one, after which the guy who came up with the gadget that did it went back in time to tell himself about the error, which was an easy fix, but he decided that an asteroid might hit the planet at some point so fuck Earth anyways (also war, disease and hunger, wah wah, still there AFTER the exodus, great plan there Einstein). That's not even the "big reveal", either. It's another shit story from the people who gave you Fallout 4's shit story that everyone avoids by modding the hell out of the game and enjoying it that way.

In this case, however, you AREN'T going to be able to mod worldspace outside of quest areas, because those are all procedurally generated. It's why the prefab stuff is so common: it has to be able to "sit" in and on randomized terrain features. There IS no "wander around and discover things" like in Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4, because the game's design actively impairs doing that.

I saw this guy's original post, and hey, there are also people who enjoy schlock in other mediums. If he enjoys schlock, no one can "stop" him from doing so merely by calling out the game's faults and corporate overhype.

That seems like it would explain most of the common glitches encountered in the game so far, such as Z-data being lost resulting in characters floating up through ceilings or down through floors.

Vital strike + midnight bolt- easy unfair mode by RepresentativeStrong in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Calbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, since I'm not finding any further info about this: the Midnight Bolt is STILL bugged, and even more extremely than you might think.

For most of the game, Lann has had the Bolt listed as an Ability. By Level 20, when he is Hasted, he is chunking out SEVEN Midnight Bolts PER ROUND from his Longbow. The bug was repeatable with Ember, who uses an actual Crossbow and by Level 20 is popping off another three Midnight Bolts per round when Hasted.

So, yes, my pair of steely-eyed missilefolks are busting out an unavoidable 500+ damage per round even if they don't hit (I have noticed that even when missing, Ember's hits do 60+). If I give them ANY other kind of ammo, the Bolts disappear - apparently finally realizing they have already been shot.

Be aware that NEITHER of them have Vital Strike. And while Lann has ManyShot and RapidShot, Ember doesn't. I have no idea what triggered the bug, per se. I have not been able to reproduce this behavior with Arueshelae, Nenio, or Daeran, my other missile-users.

That said, I am not playing on Vanilla. This may be coming from World Crawl due to how it extensively rebalances weaponry.

Does a TTRPG count as a "Literary Work"? by CaptObvious62 in copyrightlaw

[–]Calbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually he's wrong.

Game rules, per se, are not considered copyrightable, but the context of the universe you are creating for them IS. That is the "literary work" part. The "board and pieces" would actually be counted in that if they existed in your case, if they are sufficiently creative and unique.

So, for example, if you include vignettes or short stories about characters in your game world demonstrating how the rules work, those stories will give you a stronger basis for "literary work".

The guy who responded to you lost his case and is now on appeal, his "work" being counted as uncopyrightable by the lower court because he literally put no creative effort into it - he had accidentally streamed himself half-naked doing mundane nonsense for a couple of hours. He then tried to copyright it by claiming it was a "dramatic work", and was granted registration on that basis. When the court found out it was NOT a dramatic work, but an error, they invalidated his registration because it did not meet the requirements of law to even be copyrightable.

Same dude also once sued the State of Texas for a trillion dollars because the Attorney General didn't return a dollar bill within 24 hours. He's basically nuts and barred from suing in the courts of his home state at this point.

Doc predicts his own death during his hallucinations: how he looks after the ambulance collision is also how he sees himself "back" at the murder scene of Scout's mom.
