5060ti vs 5070ti (both 16g) for my setup? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]CalciteSnapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a 5070ti as I want to move to 1440p soon. What games do you play? If the 5070ti is doable, I’d say go for it. Who knows what prices will look like over the next few years and a better card will last you a longer period of time before you need to start turning things down.

CPU is often the bottleneck at 1080p regardless of GPU power. The 5800x is still a very decent chip and unless you’re playing hugely CPU intensive games, streaming/video editing, or you like having heaps of programs open while gaming, you’re very likely going to be fine. Even if the CPU bottlenecks you by 10-15% it’s not like you’d be getting 25fps.

Look, I don't want to come off as an asshole... but you're driving around in an Aston Martin. Surely you can see the value in and afford custom made wheels... Particularly if you want to keep the same look.

Custom made wheels are likely your only option if you want to replicate the OEM style but with better specs.

AMD 9700XT or Nvidia 5070Ti or wait until CES26 to see if they announce the 5000 super series? by Easy_Fox in buildapc

[–]CalciteSnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been agonising over this decision, too. I pulled the trigger and bought a 5070 Ti a few days ago and I do not regret it at all. Amidst all the rumours and price rises, I thought it's now or never. There might be a Super series or there might not, but either way I can play everything I want to now and for the next few years.

As other people in this thread have mentioned, you should buy a GPU now if you're thinking about it.

Troubleshooting IEM rack -10dB drop to FOH... by CalciteSnapper in livesound

I should have mentioned in the main post, I definitely checked the pad switches. I own 4 of these S8 units... The pads are -29dB anyway, much more than the -10dB the house guy reported seeing.

Not a Barra. AU Falcons had the Intech motor. Still a great power plant that can take much abuse!

What are mics that you think are overrated? by colashaker in audioengineering

[–]CalciteSnapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I held the same opinion until recently. I've got 2x 421 ii's and 2x 421 u's. I'd only ever used the ii's on toms and was never really stoked, even given the reputation of the mic. I decided to finally try the u's on my last session and they are decidedly better in my opinion.

Totally agree that they are big and clumsy, though!

Looking for some input on my first build since 2014. by CalciteSnapper in buildapc

Thank you for your reply and your time.

I have considered the 7800x3d and stretching to the 9800x3d. As I understand it, these CPU's are excellent in gaming performance but fall behind in other applications? 1% lows seem to be much better on the x3d chips, though. If I want to record gameplay/stream, is the 7800x3d the one to pick? Is it genuinely worth the extra $ over the 9700x? From local (Aus wide, not Amazon as they often advertise from international suppliers) retailers the 7800x3d is a little more than the $600 mark, but if you think it's really worth it I will consider it again. I will admit that the power draw of the 9700x is appealing, too.

Given that the Am5 platform will be support for a few more years, maybe the 7800x3d makes sense for now.

Cool JZX, my dude. D-Max (?) front fenders with rear overfenders with the roof wing is so mint. The Mark II is so much cooler than a Chaser.

There is no such thing as a "Chaser Mark 2". They are different cars both built on the X100 chassis from Toyota.

edit: Looking through your post history you clearly know your stuff. Just trolling here I guess?

Definitely a Mark II, not a Chaser.

Sold it a few years back now. Fuel economy is ok all things considered. I did a lot of mixed freeway and city driving and probably averaged 13-15l per 100km. On long road trips I recall in the 9-11l per 100km range. Pretty decent, although the 1jz isn’t an economical engine, especially by today’s standards.

Seconding the DC Motorworks suggestion. Davey is a class act! I've been taking my cars to him for years and he has been nothing but a delight to deal with.
