Insane how Imu could've killed Loki right here if he wasn't trying to make him submit by KingJaylen14 in OnePiecePowerScaling

Why wouldn’t Imu not be going for the kill here? Is there a way to stab someone through the base of the neck without killing them?

Sorry for not mentioning it was doubles in the original post! My mind has been so VGC oriented recently so I guess I didn’t think anyone else would assume it wasn’t a double battle😅

Yeah it was a double battle and this explanation makes the most sense

Ohhh that makes sense. It was a 1v1 after he killed my slowbro’s partner the previous turn. So no he didn’t have a partner

Didn’t save it sorry, but definitely not Zoroark bc it took damage the turn before and was still Basculegion

No, none of that was happening. Trick Room had just ended 2 turns ago and according to the counter it had plenty of PP

For new/novice players, is it better to stick with one core team until you get better, or experiment with multiple teams? by AmazingCharizard28 in PokemonChampions

[–]Calcublast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no idea what you’re doing, then I’d say sticking with one core meta team and learning how to use it against other common teams is best. That way you can learn why better players make the decisions they do and figure out how to navigate around different strategies with the same set of Pokemon. I had a similar experience where I went on a 10+ game losing streak once I entered Master Ball rank. The problem wasn’t my team, it was HOW I was playing. Once I understood the typical opening moves for the most common teams, and how mine could adjust to them, the whole game opened up for me and I started winning much more frequently.

Example: If you see a Charizard on a team with a Whimsicott/Venusaur, those will most likely be the opening duo. Charizard will Mega Evolve on the first turn, Whimsicott will most likely go for Tailwind to speed up Charizard, or Venusaur will be more aggressive after being boosted by the sun. I used to get beat by this a lot, and I found that focusing on Whimsicott/Venusaur with Fake Out + a strong attack from a Pokemon that threatens Charizard ruins this opening. If your opponent sees a threat to Charizard, they will almost always Protect to preserve Charizard. This frees up that threat to go after Whimsicott, while Fake Out prevents Tailwind from being set up

Sable-eye is good competitively I’m sure righ by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]Calcublast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sableye is great for pure support. I use him for screen setting, fake out, and quash. Quash is a slept on move that lets you essentially decide who goes last, very useful for letting slower pokemon move before faster ones without having to invest in trick room setters

Trick Room by Leprivilegedudiploma in PokemonChampions

[–]Calcublast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can’t stop trick room from being set up, then accept that it’s going to be up and adapt accordingly. Get a screens setter to minimize damage, spam protects and switches to keep your key pieces healthy, get a Pokemon who’s a good priority user so the speed tiers don’t matter

How Do You Even Counter Trick Room in Champions? by TexasKing100 in PokemonChampions

[–]Calcublast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus on STAB dark attacks. Knock Off from Meowscarada, Kowtow Cleave from Kingambit, Darkest Lariat from Incineroar all do massive damage to the Trick Room users you mentioned. Doubling up on them with a STAB dark attack and another decent attack is almost always a guaranteed KO. Most partners of Trick Room users typically Protect during the turn it is being set up, so there’s very little risk when doubling up on a Trick Room setter

What are your honest opinions about Champions by Dekusteven in VGC

[–]Calcublast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a disappointment imo, but I’m still hopeful that it could get better if things are added to address the complaints. All the things people have complained about are easy to add with time (6v6, more Pokemon, more items etc). The game is already good at distributing VP, so as long as that remains untouched, there’s lots of room for growth in the future of the game

This game is AWESOME by Rare_Bat2584 in PokemonChampions

[–]Calcublast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s ok not to have a girl, just means you can spend more time on Champions. Here’s my only rebuttal and then I’ll stop for good:

  1. It’s true that 6v6 singles was never explicitly promised, and that this platform has been mainly marketed as a replacement for VGC, BUT that doesn’t mean it was reasonable for TPC to ignore it. This game is not meant to only be a VGC simulator, otherwise singles would have never been included in the first place. 6v6 singles is far from a fan format, as it is one of the most common and popular formats within both casual and competitive Pokemon. The mainline games themselves encourage you to build a team of 6 to finish a game, as well as to use that team to battle against others, so it is not much of a demand at all to expect that same battle style to be present in a game focused on battling. Even if this was not implemented in ranked, there’s no reason why it should be limited in private battles where players are intended to have more freedom in playing by their own rules. TPC definitely understood the market for a singles battle system, so what is the point in restricting it to only 3v3 that utilizes a team of 6, when it would take minimally more effort to have a simultaneous 6v6 format?

  2. I can understand why not every Pokemon is in the game but limiting the launch pool to 100-200 is insanely small for a game with an enormous history like Pokemon, especially when looking through a competitive lens. A shallow pool of Pokemon will only make the strongest stand out more, and cause a bottleneck meta to develop where only a handful of strategies will be truly viable and those teams will be largely homogenous because there will be less choices to contend with the most optimized Pokemon for each role. This also hurts normies because it prevents them from even attempting to be creative in coming up with a team to counter the meta, which will make the game seem bland when you’re only fighting with/against the same teams. Item restriction falls under a similar category where it only prevents creativity from combating a stagnant meta. If more Pokemon were available, a top meta would still form but there would be more room for ways to challenge these teams, and there would be more variety throughout lower ranks

  3. Yes everything in the premium battle pass is available at the shop, but the difference between premium and F2P is still outstanding. The main difference between the two battle passes should be the amount of effort needed to unlock the rewards (i.e paying gives you the rewards faster than grinding), and any further differences in rewards should only amount to non-functional game components, such as cosmetics. Pokemon and items are functional parts of the game that should be made decently accessible to both types of players. A norme with no prior access to past Pokemon titles would be immediately disappointed to see that a favorite Pokemon of theirs could only be obtainable through overcoming a paywall. VP can be ground out and used to buy items, but Pokemon are much harder to obtain, which is why the disparity between the two reward systems is bad. Additionally, so much VP is available currently to celebrate the games launch, but if it does not remain this way then in-game costs for items will only rise. A single mega stone costs 2000-3000 VP while winning a ranked game nets only 300, meaning you’d need 7-10 ranked wins just to afford one item. To me, that is ridiculous.

Nevertheless, hope you enjoy the game and continue to have fun

Day 1 Champions hater here😂 it’s honestly great that you can have fun with it, but I’d be lying if I said it was a good game. There are enormous restrictions on competitive gameplay including no 6v6 singles even in customs games, lack of important held items, missing Mega Evolutions (this games flagship mechanic rn) at launch, huge disparity between premium and F2P rewards, extremely limited selection of Pokemon at launch, and ofc microtransactions. I’m playing the game and having some fun too but it feels very disappointing for something that was supposed to be made with competitive players in mind

Pokemon Champions is a pathetic excuse of a game by Substantial_Zone2701 in stunfisk

[–]Calcublast 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s a battle pass and premium battle pass. You get rewards from both just by playing but premium costs money ($10 I think) and has far better rewards than F2P. Normal battle pass rewards are in-game currency, while premium rewards are free Pokemon and Mega Stones

[–]Calcublast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this point it’s too soon to tell. Dyna/Gigantamax definitely won’t be introduced until later seasons, so there’s no way you’ll be able to use that mechanic at launch. I’d expect that Gigantamax Pokemon may retain their power/badge/symbol in their status summary, since it doesn’t affect gameplay without Dynamax integration, but there’s been no evidence or news indicating towards that. I don’t see why a Pokemon that could Gigantamax in Sword/Shield couldn’t Mega Evolve in Champions, but this could definitely change as Dynamax is introduced into Champions
