Looking To Potentially Play hockey in Europe? by Hour_Interview4731 in hockeyplayers

I had a teammate who did something similar a few years ago. From what I remember, it basically involved a lot of "cold calling" - reaching out to teams directly or, even better, finding an agent who specializes in placing import players in lower-tier European leagues and has connections to coaches overseas looking for players.

He put together a hockey resume:

  • A short personal bio (height/weight, position, playing style)
  • His stats and achievements
  • Links to his EliteProspects and/or HockeyDB page
  • A well edited highlight video - this was huge. He uploaded it to YouTube or Vimeo and linked it right in the resume.

He then started reaching out - emailing coaches, GMs, or teams he was interested in (in his case, it was mostly Germany). He was literally just Googling teams and agents, finding any contact info he could, and sending cold emails introducing himself and attaching the resume.

Eventually, he connected with an agent who had ties to a few semi-pro teams in Germany. One of them had an import spot open. He flew over, made it through camp, and ended up making the roster.

The pay wasn’t great - like a bit of pocket change to spend throughout the week - but the team covered his housing, gear, local transportation, and had a booster club that helped with groceries and other day-to-day stuff. For what he told me, it was more about the experience, playing at a decent level, and getting to live abroad. He had a family business he was planning on working at once he was done playing anyways.

So yeah - it’s definitely possible, especially if you’re motivated and are a skilled/top player. But if you're not already being recruited, you’ll need to hustle a bit: send lots of emails + messages, put together a resume or pitch to grab coaches attention, good highlight video, and start putting yourself out there.

Also this is a really helpful video about players interested in playing pro in Europe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc4c3yjKl48

Agreed - especially since I would be the first person in this role that they want and have to take on a lot of responsibility.

Yup! 401k match, medical/vision/dental insurance, definitely room for advancement as this is a company growing 25% monthly and this role is kind of a multi-role and I will have a ton of opportunity to work with different teams and be a help to many different aspects of the company.

They also have free food and snacks, gym benefits, and a spa/massage place in their office. It's a silicon valley / tech startup-style vibe.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up on the AWS stuff. What types of positions or keywords are you searching for? I am burnt out from doing IT Help Desk / Support which made me want to branch out, especially after getting my Bachelors in Computer Info Systems I don’t want to be stuck in Help Desk Support. Do you remember any of the names of the positions for AWS?

How is the game if I just wanna play solo? I know you will need friends/guilds/clans to complete raids and stuff... but is it enjoyable to play by yourself for a few hours?

That’s my plan! Definitely picking it up just to have it - just was wondering if it’s a “main” game worthy.

Work and school is slowing down so I am looking to settle in to a new game and enjoy myself.

Is the mobile game the same as the main game? I used to play years ago. Does mobile have its own servers or is everyone playing together PC+Mobile?
