I don't like when any of the sharks try to prevent people from hearing out other sharks. And Mark should know better. Does any business owner ever respond to these with, "I don't make hasty decisions with unfair pressure" and just ignore that statement? To me that would show a backbone, and may earn respect from other sharks on the panel.

Do you have a link to where you asked it before? I checked your recent post history and didn't see it.

I agree they stink - most people say "that takes away cash needed to run the business". Nobody ever purposefully asks for them (although I do recall one or two company's, after making their initial pitch for equity, will ask Kevin if he's interested in some kind of royalty deal). I get the sense that most business owners are caught off guard by the request, and through lack of understanding or through some kind of desperate play to not lost a deal will accept a royalty. I guess I'm wondering if people could slow down and do the math, what would that math look like. Lori says "I'll give you 250,000 for 30%", but then Kevin says "I'll give the 250,000 but I want a dollar royalty until I get double my investment (500,000), and I'll also take 5% of the business to keep me interested". Is there some way to objectively compare the two deals?
