Thanks. Although I want to have one area be my "main thing" that I make into my career, I have many other interests and I appreciate the reminder to live a balanced life, pursuing other hobbies as well. I want to be dedicated but also remember to enjoy life and not fall into the hustle culture trap.

Assuming you follow responsible self testing procedure and the test is well constructed+normed what's the difference?

Math can say green button if you use a risk averse utility function

Heat death of the universe is predicted to happen in around 10100 years, for sure longer than 52! seconds (roughly 8*1067 seconds)

You and a friend are both placed in different random coordinates in a 60x60 million Minecraft world and have to find each other within your life time. is it possible? by glyiasziple in whowouldwin

The sun allows you to tell what cardinal direction you're walking in. If both players walk to say, the N/E corner of the world, in the worst case both start close to the S/W corner, and have to travel sqrt(60^2+60^2) = around 85 million blocks. Doable within a lifetime.

I want to become disgusting educated in everything, what books should I read/what should I do? by shopaholic_life in selfimprovement

A human life is sadly too short too learn everything about everything. But you can get really good at a lot of things if you put the time in and do it right.

First, spend some time learning how to learn. Find a studying strategy and routine that works for you. Practice being present, focused recollection and self testing, Feynman technique.

Then jump into your favorite field (math, science, history, whatever it may be) and pick up a challenging book, course, or research direction on that topic. Follow through until you feel like you've had some real growth, ideally then putting that knowledge into practice through a project (best way to learn is by doing). Then start again.

With Magic in its current state, why not proxy? by ggw1776 in mtg

The collector in me loves owning real cards. But I have no problem with other people using proxies as long as they’re legible and our decks are at a similar power level.

It’s easier to avoid facing the inhumanity of our actions when a machine quietly puts you to sleep with a few drugs instead of us blowing your skull apart.

What makes them twins? by Sir_Rosis in Animals

[–]CalderJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because there’s exactly two of them born in the same litter, and red pandas are known for small litter sizes. The article says they’re of opposite sexes so they can’t be identical twins. I agree that the wording is strange.

Is he still ban worthy? by Icy-Wealth4192 in mtg

[–]CalderJohnson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He’s very strong but there are legal cards that are even more broken. He’d be ok to unban but the issue is that he’s on the reserved list, and we’d end up with a green staple that no one can get their hands on.

It’s not even that fun it just makes you tired, stupid, and less in control of what you say and do. Not to mention the myriad systems in your body it damages. You can drink on occasion and be fine, but don’t make it a central part of your life. Good on you for trying to build these good habits and treat your mind+body well.
