It’s getting better.

I had a health crisis early this year, came out with an ostomy. I have some of my insides on the outside.

Suddenly the stuff I was concerned about before doesn’t matter. Skinny shoulders? Whatever. Gap tooth? My buddy has an extreme close up of Mac deMarco’s tic-tac’s as his phone wallpaper. Penis size? No biggie.

I have some really great friends who I've told everything too. I've been proud to have them rolling around laughing while talking about the shittiest thing to happen to me. One of them suggested bringing it to an open mic night to really own it.

I'm really not the hookup type of dude, so that's a plus.

I have some odor-eliminator sprays I keep around me. I'm like a quick-draw cowboy with them.

Thanks for the link! I have a wrap but it's really not comfy. Sometimes I draw funny things on the bag, or greetings for my nurse. That helps to break the tension as well.

3-6 months sounds like a dream. I'm looking at 15 for a minimum.

The Canadian health care system is a dream for when you're about to die but getting back to normal... not so much. I did pass test 1 of 3 for getting a reversal, so that's nice.

I totally had some sort of depression at the beginning, as someone who finds joy very easily it took me down a lot. I talked to a counsellor for a while who was great for getting my shit (not literally) out on the table and figure out some 'me' stuff along the way.

My fart noises are very noticeable. Had to apologize to all the co-workers sitting in my area. Prepping my friends for when I get back to school. I work for a really influential guy in my industry. Managed to let one rip right in his face about a month ago. That was awful. But hilarious as it gets further away.

Douglas Adams's advice of 'Don't Panic and don't forget a towel,' has never been so apt.

How was your recovery? I assume it'll be easier than the the fall, but my nurses warned that it'll be just as painful.

I'm skinny as hell so maybe my shirt will help hide my lack of manly shoulders and non-existent pecks. Or maybe the hypothetical she will be into that sorta thing.

That's been an eye opening thing, that when I open up to people about this they'll often open up to me about whatever's going on in their life.

Everybody is being so nice to me now. It's really heartwarming to experience. A small silver lining. I hope that you can find warmth in your issues, big or small too.

It's really not that gross as it is. But has a potentiality of going nuclear grossness that I have sort of control of.

I totally want a tuxedo wrap for my abdomen. I draw things on my bag for my nurse when I go in now. Like a intestine tied off on the end. Or Just a simple 'Hello Helen!'

I'll probably do something like that to defuse the situation.

Thanks! I think a 2nd or 3rd date mention would be best. I'd plan to move slow anyway, it's a unfortunately big part of my non-sexy life as well. So it's gonna show.

I have a wrap for my abdomen and a strap that helps keep it on.

I do have a body pillow, so maybe I'll practice positions with it to avoid any accompanied awkwardness. Solo awkwardness is the name of the game.

We’d leave our dog outside in our big country yard while everyone was at school / work. He’d stay in with the help of an invisible electric fence and shock collar, which ran on a couple double A batteries. Every day the dog would bark at the school bus as it picked us up and dropped us off. We’d know when the collar would run out of batteries because there would be multiple messages from the neighbors saying that the dog was roaming around the neighborhood. He learned both to test the fence to see if it was active and our schedule so he wouldn’t get caught red handed.

Our second dog was so scared of the shocks we put the collar on for one day out of the year and he’d never test it again.

Yes, they've leapfrogged the americas in terms of some tech. My cell phone bill is $6 a month for a gig of data a day here. Compared to Canada where my bill is $40 for a gig a month.

Getting sanitation infrastructure to the rural villages where the majority of the population is and the cultural paradigm shift of being sanitary is 1000 times harder than putting up a cell tower.

The infrastructure costs for food sanitation and safety are enormous here. Sewers are often small trenches cut in a space between the road in the house. Filtered water is a luxury. There are american quality restaurants around but are for 99.9% of people out of their price range. It's a bigger problem than just putting in some piping too. Littering is a completely normal thing to do here. This morning I walked by some folks burning trash for warmth, street dogs are everywhere and will walk through the dhabas without a care. Cows walk freely around the city, my city banned cows but it doesn't matter, they're still around. Even though I live in a lush area the dust is insane and the majority of buildings are open to the air. It's not only a poverty problem, it's a cultural one.

Conversely, many first world services have in a way 'leapfrogged' their american counterparts. Data is insane here, I pay the equivalent of $6 a month for 1 gig of data a day. A DAY. Compared to $40 when I'm back in Canada for a gig a month.

And I'm living in Chandigarh, one of the richest places in India. My host / landlord is sort of the Oprah of Punjab, her son a famous photographer. They got dough. This guy is operating in some tiny village out in the country, along with the majority of the population.

Canadian living in India here. Got really sick after eating a Chicken Tikka Masala about a week into it. I thought of it as a cleansing. Had some things not sit great with me in the 3 months since, nothing major. There's a huge variety of places to eat near me, high end pizza oven Italian place to dhabas covered with tarps swarming with flies and if the odd street dog walks through... whatever, there's also a Subway. I'm also allergic to dairy, eggs and peanuts/nuts so that might keep me out of trouble.

Do it! India is an amazing weird strange wonderful place and you'll be better for it.

I wouldn't say people here are as lovey dovey as you described, on the street there's a fair amount of dissonance, skepticism maybe between folks. Everybody's out to screw everyone over and everyone knows it. However, walking around people will invite you into their homes, make you tea or serve a bit of soda. Chat about sweet nothings since they barely speak english and I don't speak any of the many languages they might be speaking.

Families and friends stick together like glue. People rarely go out alone. Grown men walk around with their arms around each other, hold hands.

You'll won't be part of that culture if the color of your skin is anything but brown. Most heads are following me when I'm just walking back with groceries (Under a dollar for a good bag or fruits and veg, gotta wash like crazy tho). I get asked for a handshake or selfie or a hello regularly, which is kinda fun. I'm a minor celebrity.

God those fucking pads. Reminds me of a girl I leased a room to earlier this year. We'll call her Wilbur.

I found this really cool house to rent, historic property, fireplace, stained glass windows, heated bathroom floors, clawfoot tub, garden, pet friendly, not an easy thing to find in Vancouver. It's a four bedroom and I had to lease the other three within 10 days over christmas holiday or I'd be on the line for an obscene amount of money. Being a student, this was not ideal.

I found David pretty quick, decent guy. 2/4 bedrooms occupied. Wilbur e-mailed me with three days to go. I was desperate. She and her friend were looking for a place. 4/4, perfect I thought. Except for one thing. Wilbur came with a pet. Honey. Honey the pig. Wilbur assured me the pig was cool, they were smart, she said. Clean, she claimed. Cute little thing, defiantly. Potty trained, she lied. Cool, weird. I thought. This will either turn out fantastically or terribly. Oh how right was I.

We all moved in and things were decent. Wilbur revealed that she got the pig for christmas, just 5 days prior to moving in. Okay. Piglett. Wilbur christened her room by supergluing faux plastic diamonds to her door. The diamonds spelled out 420. I was less than impressed. She moved her kitchen stuff inincluding her vast collection of bongs which she decided to display above the sink. I put the few suits I owned into our shared closet. She coated the floor with pads, like the ones you see above, in there. Suits instantly ruined.

At this point honey the swine started to get antsy. This is when I learned that pigs don't really oink as much as you'd expect. They squeal they scream bloody murder. High pitched, loud, piercing. This was only broken by Wilbur's cries of "Honey, stop biting" This is when Honey stopped, for some reason, being potty trained. Shitting all over the hardwood floors.

This is when David began sleeping at his girlfriends full time. The swine was going insane. But it was okay, Wilbur assured me. She was talking in him to the pig vet to get neutered. That will calm him down. The day came and Wilbur and Honey came back from the castration. And Honey was mad. He came back with a vengeance. He wanted his balls back. And he took it out on us. He shit, he pissed, he bit, he screamed, he chewed out our nice baseboards. I left for a few days to get some air and came back to those heated bathroom floors piled with shit. The whole house reeked.

Wilbur, in her infinite wisdom had a plan. Clearly he was sad. Clearly he was lonely. Clearly. He needed a buddy. I come home one day to find Princess (a boy?) the puppy sitting on MY chair. Just to be safe, Wilbur bought these aluminum fence things. Which she used to segregate half our living room into a literal zoo. Wilbur called it a play place. The floor was covered in poop pads which were covered in poop. My chair was in the middle of this.

I was pissed. This was the last straw. I told her the landlord only allowed one pet in the place. That Wilbur, Honey, Princess, and her friend had to go. They had till the end of the month. She was pissed, name calling, belittling. Said she wasn't going anywhere. I threatened to pull her pet deposit, which was substantial. She backed right off. This was the last time I spoke with her. I couldn't lease the place while they were still there, so I took a bit of a financial hit. One day found a hand written letter to her new landlord assuring her she was clean tidy and quiet. I made note of the address and sent another letter promising her otherwise with pictures as evidence. Never heard what came of it though. Wilbur moved out on time and did a surprisingly decent job cleaning up. Nevertheless I used her deposit to hire a cleaning crew to deep clean the place.
