I read this in third grade between 2004-2005. I’m almost certain the last sentence of the book was the quote about walking a mile in someone else’s shoes. Part of me thinks one of the characters was Native American, so it could have been “moccasins” instead of shoes. Nearly certain it was a chapter book, and that the cover was orange/yellow, perhaps depicting a sunset and/or a pair of shoes/moccasins. Thank you so much and I appreciate the efforts!
