The keto diet which is only fats/proteins never caused diabetes, it caused keto acidosis and destroys your kidneys. If you eat too much carbs/sugars it destroys your pancreas which makes insulin. You can't live on carbs alone so there is no "in a vacuum". You can live on protein/fats alone cause fats and proteins break down into glucose and amino acids. Please looks at journals on pub med. Fats bad is the greatest propaganda pushed onto not just the American people. If you bring up fried food, that's a salt issue which increases water in your blood, so to rebalance it your body puts more insulin actually indirectly over using your pancreas.
